VR is absolutely terrible in V5

Post by brodie4598 »

I've never gotten so sick from a VR experience. Left eye stutters non-stop, right eye is smooth. I got nauseous within a minute and now I have a splitting headache.

We're very sorry to hear that. We haven't experience that in our testing.
What HMD are you using?
What GPU and driver?
What version of windows 10? (You can run winver from start menu to check this)
Is the experience better if you switch from SinglePass to Stereo?
Do you have Enhanced Atmospherics enabled? I believe we automatically turn it off when you enable VR, but I'd suggest turning it off before enabling VR in case there are any issues with how we disable it during the transition.
Thanks

I am getting the same issues. Made me very nauseous and kept crashing P3D. I am using the Samsung Odessey+ in Windows 10 Build 18362.720. Nvidia 1080Ti driver 445.78.

I use single pass and have disabled the enhanced atmospherics as I thought that it may have been causing the crashing. It crashes anyway...

In addition to trying it in Stereo, could you also try enabling VR using the emulator interface? That will help us understand if the issue is with the core VR plugin or a specific interface (SteamVR, Oculus, Varjo, etc)
Thanks

Tried it in Stereo and the same thing occurs. Left-eye stutters, Right-eye smooth.

When using the emulator, it doesn't seem like it is occurring.

Hi there

Sorry same issue here too in v5.0 - I've tried turning all the settings down and using single pass/stereo, different aircraft etc but I'm getting a flickery, unusable mess at present that is not fit for purpose. I have P3D v4.5 too and that works fine...

Oculus Rift S version 15.0.0.400.256
Windows 10 version 1909 18363.720
RTX 2080Ti with nVidia driver version 445.75
i7 4790K 4.00GHz
24Gb ram
Honeycomb Flight Yoke, TM Warthog HOTAS

Hopefully there's a rogue setting that just needs identification...

Thanks

It looks like a one from biggest problem :(, I stay with 4.5 till this issue of flickering in VR mode will be fixed. I hope soon.

I saw also feedback about running VR does not utilize GPU at all. Stays at 10 to 15 % .

Not an option. My v45 never ran well, not even with a fresh installation 1.5 Month ago did fix the issue of the hour glass in VR almost every 2-3min

Its gone in v5. But with the jittery IQ

Further to this post, I have a different issue.
When I boot up VR, while it is pretty stuttery, so therefore unusable, I noticed that when look at MSI Afterburner my GPU usage radically reduces down to about 40%(when without VR it was basically maxed out).
Any help?

Came here to report the same issue. If you hold your head still, the frame rate is fine. But when you turn your head from side-to-side, the screen refresh essentially "tears" -- chunks update at different rates and it's really hard to look at. It's terrible in Oculus mode. In Steam VR mode it's still there (and still too bad to live with), but it doesn't feel as severe.

Same PC had zero issues with VR in v4.5.

Config:
Core i7 9900X, 32GB, GeForce RTX 2080 TI, Oculus Rift S, P3D V5 Academic. 2D monitor is Dell UWS running at 3440x1440.

I think this is related to the 8gig vram issue . Increaseing PD on rift is common practice to gain clarity any change of pixel density even 1024 textures crashes the sim because vram is too high . On 4.5 I use PD of 1.6 .So far other than 0 and fuzzy image vram is spikeing .

I have the same problem. The right eye is basically smooth - but the left eye “tears” with even small movement. It fiesn’t seem to be particularly an issue with the scenery complexity.
