P3D4.5 VS P3D5

Post by Murcielago »

Hello, I have P3D4.5, academic licence and
Before moving to the P3D5 version, I would like to ask a few questions to the forum:

1. what is the fundamental difference between P3D4.5 and P3D5 versions?

2. Is there a tool to check the compatibility of the additional components installed?

3. Where can I learn a little more about the features of P3D5 version, and where can I compare it for sure.

4. Are the extensions of P3D5 free or paid?

Thank you very much and best regards

Another significant improvement with v5 is the worldwide terrain. Detailed coastlines, rivers, lakes and roads making addons like Ultimate Terrain X unnecessary.

Another downside is greatly reduced parking positions at many airports. So if you use AIG Ai you won’t see all possible Ai since there’s nowhere for them to park.

But performance wise it’s a big improvement over v4.

Hi, you have made an excellent description of the differences between the last two variants of P3D. I don't know if you have noticed that in P3D5, many airports have taxiways and parking areas that are a very deep black colour, not at all natural, which leaves a lot to be desired. This issue has been discussed by some users, but the company, the only one that can do something about it, seems not to have even noticed, as silence and aloofness have been their hallmarks.

Thank you very much for your cooperation
Good day, and good luck

In these forums, L-M only very, very rarely comments on issues like you describe.

There are (at least) two reasons for this:

1.: The intended user audience for P3D is not the "sofa-simmers" (a wonderful expression that I don't recall where I picked up), and

2.: Section 6 of the EULA that you agreed to on installing P3D (link thereto at the bottom of this page).

But be very aware, as I said in another thread, "no comment" does not necessarily mean "no action" on the part of L-M. That has been my experience.

The EULA link, to which you refer, did not arrive with your notes. Please post it or summarise in a few words what you are talking about, if you are so kind.

When you read this, then scroll all the way down on the page.

You will see a line with very small font, that says:

Privacy | Terms | End-User License Agreement

The "End-User License Agreement" is a link to the EULA.

In short, clause 6.1 means that software enhancements do not constitute an obligation for L-M. Well, it is obvious that they have stipulated so, but that in no way means that upgrades are not possible. It is the same with upgrades, which are also not a contractual obligation for L-M, but they still do them. Consequently, there is nothing to prevent us from fighting for or asking for software improvements. A popular proverb says:

He who does not cry does not suckle.

And the same with support, no obligation.

But then there's us civilians running around...

Improvements at the request of customers are very remote, not to say utopian. It's bad business policy not to give a voice to the people who pay for a product, especially when it comes to global giants like L-M.

Again, you need to keep in mind that P3D is not intended for "sofa-simmers", but for large - LARGE- military and civilian organizations. In fact, the EULA specifically states that the product is not to be used for recreational purposes.

It is the requirements of those large customers that get priority. And why? Because they, in many cases, have service contracts that you and I cannot afford.

Hello Murcielago ,

You can use P3Dv4 and v5 on the same PC.

You can purchase P3Dv5 and test it for two weeks (Lockheed Martin 14 Day Money-Back Guarantee) and return it if it does not meet your requirements.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not really interested in getting rid of the P3D. It's not all bad. Add-ons cost money, and the term for returns is expired.
