Prepar3d V5 needs better scenery compatibility

Post by jetpilot1980 »

So after having switched to V5 I am noticing an annoying issue in that V5 does not seem to handle addon scenery and addon scenery objects the same way that V4 and below did. Issues I have noticed:

1. Default buildings and default objects showing through addon airports despite proper exclude files

2. Addon scenery objects such as buildings, vegitation ect. that were compiled in the proper format for FSX thru V4 that would show perfectly fine in V4.5 for some reason no longer wish to show in V5.

3. Road traffic not obeying excludes for example I saw cars and a tractor trailer rolling both through the ramp and through an AI aircraft that was parked on the ramp the other day.

In terms of the scenery objects that don't show I am at a loss as to what to do about them; they are in the scenery library, they worked fine in 4.5 and in terms of the ade file I checked everything I could and cannot find a logical reason for them not to work... In terms of the excludes it is a real pain to have to go back open up the various airports that this is affecting, load the stock data, remove the stock data, and individually recompile and test...

Can LM please do something about this... I know I am not the only one to have brought this issue up...

Can they make V5 go back to handling addon scenery objects and excludes the way V4.5 did? Thanks

Hi jetpilot1980,

"So after having switched to V5 "

Just to mention if you just now switched to P3Dv5 the LM P3D refund policy is here:

I am not looking for a refund and I am beyond the refund period anyway... Also, I am not the only one with this issue lots of people are having it... I (and many others) would like an improvement to the software such as through a HF or otherwise... Also I would like a response from an actual LM person on this one... Thanks...

Hi jetpilot1980,

You are welcome.

My scenery default and payware looks good as far as I have tested.

Do you have screenshots to share?

I don't see an option to post screenshots myself... But here are links to a few other threads with screen shots

Look for TIMC340s 2/20/22 post

https://militaryaiworks.com/forums/topic/19763

This one on FS Developer (note the solution is to load v5 stock data, delete and re-compile)

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threa ... ng.447350/

From me personally I have already had to re-do several airports because of this issue to include replacing entire terminals with other buildings, removing default buildings ect. So far that list has been:

KDTW
KCHS
KSAV
KNBC

which has been time consuming and annoying...

Also if you are looking for something to test to prove both of my points go to avsim.com and try this kdtw_p3dv4_rwc.zip you will find that jet bridge extension objects are not showing and default scenery is showing through the exclude...

Hi jetpilot1980,

“I don't see an option to post screenshots myself"

You can post your own specific problem screenshots for this topic in this forum by using the information in this link:

Edit:
Or a video .

I think I have shared plenty of details and am not the first to post about this on the P3d or other forums for that matter... At this point lets hear from LM on this...

Hi jetpilot1980,

You mentioned KDTW.

My hometown airport is KDTW.

For a P3Dv5 default scenery it works well for me.

Note:
Screenshots of your problems would be helpful.

Martyson,

Quick question; are you an actual Lockheed Martin dev for this product and or a Lockheed Martin employee? If not I don't think you can do anything to help me... I am looking to hear from someone on here who has the "Lockheed Martin" under their name... Thanks

Hi jetpilot1980,

Quick question:
Are you into scenery development?

If so, you might want to post here:

Hi Martyson

So based on that (lack of) response I am going to conclude that you are not with Lockheed Martin or a dev or otherwise... So if you don't mind I would like to request that you sit the rest of this one out... and hopefully someone who is in a real position to be of some assistance will answer...

To the real Lockheed Martin Devs,

Can one of you please address this? Thanks

Some screen shots of these issues:

KDTW using the .bgls contained in kdtw_p3dv4_rwc.zip from avsim.com (unedited):

Note the fuel tank (guessing pretending to be a giant de-icing fluid tank as that is the pad area) is default and should not be there it is overriding the exclude.

after correction done by myself:

Note the default building showing through the north terminal again ignoring or over riding the exclude:

after correction done by myself:

Here is KBWI note the missing buildings and jet bridge extensions this scenery worked fine and the objects (building and extensions) showed just fine in P3dV4:

I know this is a well known issue across multiple forums as some of the links I have posted above indicate.

Here is a screenshot of default road traffic driving right through the hangars and ramp at KNHK, while I had the AI aircraft traffic turned off at this time had it been on it would have gone right through the aircraft as well.

This thread at AVSIM may help:

https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/6148 ... for-p3dv5/

Since V4 I personally got familiar with Airport Design Editor (ADE) and ModelConverterX. With V5 I personally updated the mdl and bgls of many of my addons to ensure minimal issue and it has paid off for me.

The platform is moving forward, to facilitate that some older things won't work 100%. Its a miracle FSX stuff from 2009 can still be used in some instances. The backwards compatibility has been a double edged sword, wheras we can use our favourite addons from developers that have long closed shop, it also made developers extremely lazy in that they only changed the installers and unless they were Flightbeam, Flytampa, ORBX, MK Studios, FSLABS etc, they never used the newer features (PBR, XML addon) . (Funny enough the lazy developers got their act together for the other platform but we won't get into that).

Point being, if your addon developer doesn't make a V5 compatible update, you'll have to do the modification yourself. Honestly after having done it so many times I can modify AFCADS and BGL's in a matter of minutes. So its a skill thats worth it in my opinion in the event we get V6 in the next 2 years and some of the developers choose not to engage.

Hope that helps.

That didn't help... Yes I know how to manually update things in ADE, and yes my object .bgls are updated to at least FSX formats... Again this is a P3d issue...
