[RESOLVED] Flickering screens after Windows 10 version 1803 update

Today, my computer updated Windows 10 with the spring creators update (1803)

After that update, I got flickering / flashing screens when I run P3D v3.

Screens also flicker with the default aircraft, the screens flicker in both windowed as in full screen mode.

In windowed mode there is more flicker.

Please help

If it was a large Windows update you usually have to reinstall your video driver, I have even had to reinstall my SB sound card driver one time. If you have an Nvidia card it's pretty easy, can't say about ATI.

Just make sure to bounce the system after updating any drivers.

I haven't got the update yet so I can't say for sure. But I always run the DX update after installing a new driver JIC, you don't have to but it checks to make sure all the DirectX files are installed properly.

NOTE:: I'm downloading the update now, I'll let ya know if I have the same issue.

Ok I updated my PC to 1803 and I don't have this flickering problem with P3Dv4. I did get a warning that the update said ENVSHADE was not compatible with this version of windows?

It DID completely screw up my SB Zx sound card though, can't even reinstall the driver, the PC BSOD's during the driver install. Spent 5 hours on this today.

I may try to roll this back to an earlier version.

I want to note, the 1803 update DID reset my Nvidia driver!! It's the same number driver but ALL the settings in the Nvidia control panel were set to default for some reason.


This win 10 update 1803 apparently gives us a entirely new version of Windows, so check all of your apps and shade tools!! SOME will have to be updated!!

I updated the video driver but that didn't help.
I could reduce the problem by limiting the target framerate to 30 fps (was unlimited).

Flickering still occurs, but rarely in full screen mode. In windows mode it occurs frequently, especially when I have some views undocked and distributed over the screens that I use.

Only the application windows will flicker, it is not the screen. I use dual graphics card (GTX1080 + GT710) and 5 monitors.
3 monitors are in surround on the GTX1080.
GT710: 1 monitor is used for the main panel + 1 monitor for the left CDU screen .

I have the problem after installation of the GT710 and fall creators update 1709 in december 2017. The 1803 update has worsened the situation. With the 1709 update I had only problems in the windowed mode, after 1803 update also flickering occurs in full screen mode.

Does anyone have an idea where to look for it ?

You have an Xbox 360 Controller connected by any chance? I opened that thread after Update 1803 with a different problem, I dont have flickering, but maybe its the same similar problem?

I think I have found the problem:

I have enabled Triple Buffering (and Vsync) and no flickering screens anymore. Target framerate set to unlimited.

I don't know why this solved my problem! Maybe an expert can explain this . Is it related to the use of two graphic cards (GTX1080 + GT710) and 5 monitors ?


I hope I got rid of this annoying problem forever!

Hiya Hermon,

I have exactly the same issue (since Windows update) and like you I found vSync and Triple Buff solved it. Would be interested to see tech reason for this if anyone can answer.
