P3D v4 crash due to ATC.DLL

I'm flying along and at around the 3 hour mark of my long 14 hour journey to New York, I get this nice little message:

This device (NVIDIA GTX 1060 3GB) has stopped working for the following reasons: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG. Do you want to exit Prepar3D? Click yes blah blah

So I'm pissed off because this was my off day this week, but whatever. I go to Event Viewer and see the crash was because of ATC.dll. After some digging, I find that ATC.DLL deals with some graphical settings, and that this happens when you have multiple displays/windows. Well, I have 3 monitors, and had chrome with a video + a few other tabs + other flightsim applications.

I check my NVIDIA drivers and they are up to date. What am I missing here? I did a flight a few days ago and I didn't change anything between them, other than I set up the flight and left for work, came back and landed. This time I was at home, surfing the web for a while. What should I do to fix this issue?

I am running P3D version 4.2, on Windows 10 64bit, newest version.

I have sceneries, textures, weather, and vehicles installed. I was using the PMDG 777-300ER, REX 4 Texture Direct, Active Sky 2016, FTX Global, and TomatoShade at the time of the crash.

My system is an i7-7700k, ASUS Z270A, 16 GB DDR4 2400MHz, GTX 1060 3GB, PNY CS1311 240GB SSD, along with 3 monitors. I am not overclocking anything on my system.

I have done most of the debugging except for deleting the folders just because of how much stuff I would lose deleting the addons.

Just crashed with the same error, this time in a default R22 and landing on a Yacht. What's going on?

Can you guys help? This just happened again after using what other people described "a stable driver version".

I haven't gotten a reply and it's been days.

Try this step, Delete the Prepar3D.cfg file and the Shaders folder as explained from the post below

Also, I understand you have updated your graphics driver but maybe remove your driver using a driver removal tool like DDU (Driver display uninstaller) and then proceed to Install your driver again
