[RESOLVED] Starting Oculus Rift crashes P3Dv4.5

Post by DaveB »

I updated to P2Dv4.5 by reinstalling Client, Content, and Scenery. I can fly any aircraft at any airport all ok ....but as soon as I try to open Oculus in the top menu bar P3Dv4.5 crashes , it goes to a white out screen and then the pop up come on saying P3Dv4 has errored and will shut down. What's the fix?

I've done that for other reasons in the past, can you tell me an I likely to lose anything or mess anything up by deleting these files?

Hello,

You can back up the folder by renaming it instead of deleting it buy yes, you will be resetting your settings and removing addons by doing this.

Hello,

Yes, those in the add-on location. They would not be deleted from the add-ons folder unless you delete them, but they will be removed from the sim. If you leave them in the add-on folder after deleting/renaming your generated files, Prepar3D will ask if you want to enable them on start up. Select No when prompted to enable.

I think it did clear the generated files as it did ask to re install the addon-ons. but on trying Oculus it still crashed P3Dv4.5. So that didn't fix it :(

I've never needed to disable it with P3Dv4.4 so why now?

You are not alone. I am having this same issue. Oculus crashes p3d as soon as I start VR. Mine is also crashing often when I try to increase my display settings. Tried deleting shader folder, tried a repair of p3d, reinstalled my orbx global, tried everything I can think of, no joy. I'm just about to do a total reinstall of my p3d and I am dreading that because I so many add-ons. Going to take me a week.!!!

Is your problem with P3Dv4.5? I also tried deleting Prepar3D.cfg that usually fixes the odd crash to desktop for me but this looks like a problem with P3Dv4.5

Same problem observed here. Prepar3d 4.5 crashes when enabling Oculus Rift, but only on certain aircraft.

We are on Windows10 build 1809, intel 8700 CPU, and nVidia 1080Ti with very latest drivers v419.67. I also updated/reinstalled the Oculus software just to be sure.
I updated to P3D v4.5 by uninstalling then reinstalling / updating Client and Content, not a full/clean install. Nor did I delete generated folders or anything like that. It would take me weeks to rebuild my addons, so I really do not want to go there.

Certain aircraft (Aerosoft Airbus, as a consistently repeatable example) will immediately crash the sim upon enabling Oculus Rift.

However, stock aircraft (F22, AC11-Commander 114) and these addon aircraft (Carenado C90B Kingair, PMDG 737) with Oculus work fine.

I'm continuing to test, but as of right now it looks to be an add-on / Aerosoft issue.
After uninst and reinstalling the Aerosoft A319 , the problem still exists. I'll report this over at the Aerosoft forum.
