Here is my AffinityMask parameter:

[JobScheduler]
AffinityMask=65535
P3DCoreAffinityMask=65535
MainThreadScheduler=0
RenderThreadScheduler=1
FrameWorkerThreadScheduler=2

If you go through the AffinityMask calculator with the number of cores from your own CPU and look at my values as you go through your own, you should be able to get something meaningful out of it.

Thanks Jorgen,

I will look into getting a suitable infinity mask to make the most of my hardware now, especially having paid £2000 for the new parts to get rid of these pauses, and it turns out they were nothing to do with my previous set up not being powerful enough!

I've been adding my Orbx Central sceneries one by one. Terraflora, Buildings, Global Base, EU Scotland, and EGPH caused no pause at EGPH RYW 24.

I added Dundee, Sumburgh, Newcastle, EU England, EU Wales, EU Ireland & EU Northern Ireland, again with no problems.

I then added Open LC Europe, Australia V2, EU Germany North & South. Whilst I didn't get a pause with those added, there is a stutter at the exact same location where I was getting the pause with all my Orbx sceneries loaded.

I would have though that adding sceneries that are in a different geographical location would not make any difference as they are presumably not loaded by the sim until you are in that area. Is that not the case?

I then removed Open LC Europe, Australia V2. EU Germany North & South again. Having rolled onto RWY 24 at EGPH about a dozen times after removing them there may, or may not be be a slight stutter, again at the exact same location. But if there is it is so slight that it wouldn't affect enjoyment of the sim.

A Google search for Orbx products causing stutters or pauses in P3D v 5.3 doesn't really produce much in the way of results, so I really don't understand why this exact geographical location seems to change from a possible barely imperceptable stutter, to a noticeable stutter, to a pause the more Orbx sceneries I have installed.

This is where you'll need to tailor your P3D to your system, using the links I sent you.

With tons of sceneries, photosceneries and ORBX installed, plus over 14,000 AI flight plans, I do not get those pauses that you do.

I could imagine that your CPU simply cannot feed data to your superb GPU fast enough. Overclocking and optimizing prepar3d.cfg will help you there.

Hi Calum WE ,

Start the Task Manager and check your CPU speed and other Performance graphs.
What is your CPU speed ?

With the Task Manager running start P3D and load your flight.
What is your CPU speed ?

Did your CPU kick into Turbo speed and stay there?

Mine does (4.9 to 5 GHz) until I quit P3D.
No user speed adjustments needed on my setup running Xplane11, Xplane 12, P3D4.5.14.34698, P3D5.3.17.28160, MSFS 1.30.12.

Additional information for your review and my system Specs:

You could still upgrade to WIN11 for free and it is recommended by LM for P3Dv5.

I have most of the Orbx sceneries installed again, and at the moment it is stutter and pause free when testing at EGPH RWY 24, and flying circuits etc.

I have the PC currently running the one click, auto overclock in the MSI BIOS.

The CPU speed jumps to about 5.7 when P3D starts running, so I think turbo mode etc is working.

I also set up an affinity mask, using the tool in the main thread about affinity masks on the Avsim forum. It looks like P3D has changed that again upon reloading P3D though. I will need to read more about affinity masks to find out why that would be the case.

To answer my own previous question, it seems there is a performance hit when a large amount of scenery is installed into the sim, even if you are nowhere near that scenery area at the time. Perhaps taking a few minutes in Lorby add on manager to deactivate scenery areas that are not going to be used during a flight may be beneficial, if a bit of a pain.

Saying the L-M recommends Windows 11 over Windows 10 is pure wishful thinking, as evidenced in the clip published.

In that, it says that L-M recommends Windows 10 21H2 or Windows 11.

This thread, from the AIG forum, might be of interest in case one is thinking of "upgrading" to Win 11:
