Running 3 4K monitors with P3D v4.5

Post by Nsr047 »

I'm looking to build a rig that can run prepar3d v4.5 at 30fps (constant) on 3 4K screens, wanted to know what would be the recommended config for this? also will going with Intel over AMD be a good choice - seeing that P3D is CPU intensive application.

Please let me know.

Hi - I am looking at doing something similar, did you make any progress on this?

I've recently been lucky to obtain a 3090 GPU and put it into my I9 PC and I can run P3D V5 with 3 55" TVs in 4k. Not sure how well it would run using 4.5. When I run on unlimited FPS I can usually get around 30-40 as long as the weather isn't too complex in Active Sky. With weather it can drop below 30 and still be pretty smooth. Haven't been able to test to many configuration options yet and haven't tried a flight into LA or NYC. I don't think I can run on max P3D settings at that resolution. However, what I can say is because of the 4k resolution you won't need to run with as much AA. It may be possible to get this with a lesser GPU like a 3080. The 3090 fell into my lap not quite a month ago via the EVGA queue system so I snatched it up. I still haven't been queued up for the 3080, not that it matters now. Please remember the YMMV.

Sabre do you run any other monitors as well for instruments? If so how is that set up/how does the PC cope?

I currently run an additional small touch screen for the GPS. I run other instruments on a separate pc using air manager.

This is what I am hoping to achieve. What aircraft do you fly?

In another forum someone stated the following:

"What I am saying is that you can't run 3 monitors is an angled environment - for example - where the left and right monitors are at, say, 45 degrees. The is no way to get the perspective correction. The only sim that supports this is X-Plane."

Is this a true statement? I am planning 3 x 50" OLED TVs, I thought P3D could handle this?

Not sure what perspective correction means. I use a view group with separate views for each monitor and it looks good to "me".

Nice! I have the turbine duke too. I flew that a lot before I went to PC12.

Can I ask ... with the 3 55" screens do you still use keyboard and mouse or have you found a way to do without? I have been looking at air manager but it doesn't seem to support my main aircraft of Pc12 and PMDG 737.

The larger screens don't really impact whether or not you still need to use the mouse or keyboard. Unless you are using touch screens for those. Touchscreens work in air manager as well. In Airmanager Switches work well, rotaries not so much. I use a combination of the switches provided by the Honeycomb yoke and throttle and a couple of thrustmaster MFDs and that's enough for me.

Air manager supports P3d but there may not be specific instruments for your particular bird. That said, an altimeter is an altimeter, and anyone of them that are compatible with P3d should work. The Airspeed indicator is probably the most specific. However, airmanager has a generic airspeed gauge that can be configured with the specifics. You can depict all of the arcs, never exceed speed, depict min and max speed of the gauge, Blue line and red line approach speeds, and KTS or MPH. It won't look exactly like the gauge in the plane but it gives you the information that you need. Other items like radios, autopilots, etc are there it just may not match exactly. There is a large group of community developers that are designing gauges of all kinds that make them available for anyone to use. There is also support for Arduino as well.

Hope this helps.

Hi....You going to require somewhere around a gtx 980 ti for each screen, if not you will battle with terrible showing, if you have the cash for that you will feel that WOW, P3D performing great is astounding.

My example..i needed to overhaul from a 970 to a 980 ti to have stable execution on each kind of view with a 3440x1440 goal.
