Prepar3D v4.5 - Performance Optimisation & FPS rate

Post by jjsmcc »

Hi all,

My computer specifications are as follows:
Device name DESKTOP-VH43HJG
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-7900X CPU @ 3.30GHz 3.31 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable)
Device ID BCFFA78A-30FD-4256-93E7-DCA1AB7FE783
Product ID 00325-81256-20969-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

When at Heathrow (LHR/EGLL) Using the UK2000 on XTREME, PDMG B777-200, Active Sky Next, vPilot/Vatsim and AI manager I typically get 8-10 FPS with the attached settings in P3D. Please can you advise of any solutions on how to increase my FPS to circa 25-30 without changing my current settings in P3D or add-ons etc?

Thank you in advance for the help and I look forward to working with you. Have a lovely afternoon.

Best wishes,
James M

Your CPU is the problem, running at 3.3 GHZ it is just over the minimum system requirement.

Try overclocking it, at least to over 4 GHz, better even to over 4.5 GHz.

Hi JorgenSA

Thank you for your quick reply. As you can see in the below photos my CPU is running at 4.0GGHZ as an average

My own i7-7700K ran first at 4.2 GHz, which is how it comes from Intel, and I felt it was somewhat sluggish. After overclocking to 4.66 GHz I saw a marked improvement. I limit my FPS rate to 30 in Prepar3D.cfg for better smoothness.

If you know what BIOS is in this Alienware computer, you could google that symptom as related to the BIOS, otherwise you might want to talk to Alienware about this.

Hi,

Hope you are well. I am pleased to advise you my computer is working again. I managed to reset my BIOS (which I think solved the issue).

When I called Dell this morning to troubleshoot and help fix my computer, they advised that my CPU is a 3.3GHZ which goes up to 4.5GHZ in turbo mode. As you mention that should help increase my performance. I have an i9-7900x processor/CPU. Please be advised that I will also limit my FPS to 30 to investigate the results.

If anyone could assist me with overclocking/how BIOS version 2.0.3 Alienware works, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the continued help and support.

Best wishes,
James

James,

Try googling this string:

BIOS version 2.0.3 Alienware

and plenty of articles will come up where you should be able to find an answer.

The Dell tech actually (IMNSHO) skirted around the issue by giving you the spiel about the turbo mode. The base rate for the CPU is 3.3 GHz, and that is what you want to raise by overclocking, so that it stays permanently at the higher rate and not reverts to 3.3 GHz as it will in "turbo" mode.
