Is RTX3090 beneficial for P3Dv5 ?

Post by micschneider »

Hi all,
probably somebody has experinces with the newer RTX3080 / 3090 and has an advice for me. I am currently using 5.1HF1 with an GTX1080Ti and 3 Optoma full HD projectors. I found okayish settings and I am able to run the sim with 30fps extremly fluent. However, the graphics settings are relatively low and therefore also the overall picture quality is not the best. I can go up to max. 8xMSAA for instance. Everything above leads to stutters specially in clouded conditions.
Is this something an RTX 3090 would do better for me ? Could I go to easily 8xSSAA with an RTX3090 ?
I would be very thankful for an advice !
Thanks and best regards
Michael

Well, I have one. But the entire system is new so its matched with a i9 10900k overclocked to 5.2ghz
It depends on what processor you are running too. You can certainly use the extra VRAM. I don't think
I can run 8xssaa but I can run 4xssaa. I'll have a look and get back to you.

Hi, great, thanks for your answer, well I have also a relatively good system with an i9-9900k with 5.0Ghz and so on. I am just uncertain if switching the GPU from my GTX1080ti gives me an benefit....

Same setup as Avidean and also OC to 5.2 GHz all core.
Max. GPU usage is 70 %, and this is only when sim rate is 8 or 16 for quickly transferring to the approach part of my destination.
Max VRAM usage is 7 GB.

It‘s nice to hafe an RTX 3090, but I‘d guess that the performance with an RTX 3080 is identical.

Well, I probably run my sim a bit different but I can max out the 3090 at 99% and hit 13gb VRAM and still get just over 30fps in VFR flights PNW near Vancouver. I've never really optimized 5.1 on my new system because I've been using that other flight sim.

I'll just add a correction. I have not seen VRAM use at 13GB in P3D V5.1
In fact I've seen it at about 7GB. But I do recall when I had a 2080ti with
11GB of VRAM Running out of VRAM on V5.0 if I recall correctly.

Just tried V5.2 with the same scenario where I saw GPU usage at 99% in V5.1
showing about 85 to 90% in V5.2
