Here's how you find the relevant entry:

Note the time of the crash. Then right-click on your Start button and select Event Viewer. In Event Viewer, open Windows Logs, then select Application. Now, in there scroll around the time of the crash, and you should see an entry called Error. Copy the information from there and paste it here.

This is an example of what it would look like, stol.... er, borrowed from another thread:

"Faulting application name: Prepar3D.exe, version: 5.0.31.35253, time stamp: 0x5eebf566
Faulting module name: g2d.dll, version: 5.0.31.35253, time stamp: 0x5eebf4f0
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00000000000a1866
Faulting process id: 0x22b4
Faulting application start time: 0x01d66b13249cf355
Faulting application path: E:\Prepar3D v5\Prepar3D.exe
Faulting module path: E:\Prepar3D v5\g2d.dll
Report Id: a2008f66-a381-47ee-a043-fc6b8bc137ae
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:"

If your entry kinda looks like that, then you're on the right track.

What I posted is from the Event Viewer under Application.

It does not CTD so it looks totally different than if the sim CTD's.

I might add it shows level as, "information" and Event 1001 as Windows Error Reporting.

I do not know how else to explain it.

Ray,

I can certainly understand why this is confusing. You could try searching the web for this string:

d3ddred2 p3d v5

What graphics card do you have?

Jorgen,

I have done everything I can up to this point. I never have in all my posts heard from anyone at LM about my issue and it is not only me. I am using the brand new 6800XT, which is also documented in all of my posts.

From what I have been able to read - and you will need to take this with a (very large) grain of salt, since this is my subjective condensation of what I have read - there are issues with the 6800XT that do not exist with other AMD cards, nor with nVidia cards.

These issues are beyond the "normal" "DXGI DEVICE HUNG" errors that, again as far as I know, relates to VRAM management.

L-M has stated in these forums that the VRAM issue is being worked upon, but I have not seen a similar statement about the 6800XT. And I would not expect that either, since it could seem that this 6800XT issue could be isolated to that particular model, in which case it would be an AMD issue (hardware and/or driver).

And all of the above is, of course, totally frustrating for the end users... us!

After numerous attempts to fly on my new 6800XT GPU and all resulting in Device Hung, I was finally able to complete a flight from KDEN to KBWI.

Makes no sense to me but I deleted p3d.cfg file, started p3d again, put all of my settings back the way they were and I completed the flight.

I read about doing this from another post on this forum.

However, it would be great if the issue just gets fixed in an updated release of p3d.

Ray,

L-M has stated in the past that this DXGI issue is something they are working on, but no statements beyond that.

@Jorgen,

Yes I know. However, I and many others did not have this issue prior to HF1 on 5.1

I wrote LM and asked for a link to download 5.1 previous version before HF1 as I had accidentally deleted mine and I was told no dice.

My fault for deleting but should allow customers to have a previous version if you know you have issues with the latest to only some of those customers.

From a tech support standpoint it makes bad sense to have a version with known bugs available, when you have a more recent version available in which the bugs are fixed.

I understand but none of those bugs stopped me from flying with that version.

Hi,

Just bought P3D. Installed PMDG 737, FlyTampa Amsterdam and Orbx Basepack. After startup a DXGI Error popped up in the main screen

@fbacker

If I delete my cfg file then start my sim I can fly without a device hung. After I start my sim I set all of the settings I want for the flight since deleting the cfg file returns the sim to default state.

I am using P3Dv 5.1 HF1.

I would get Device Hung 100% of the time if I did not delete my cfg file first.

I uninstalled P3D Client 51.12.26829 and reinstalled P3D Client 5.0.31.35253 and have had 4 flights with no Device Hung. Hopefully those days are in the past for me as I almost gave up on P3D.

Smyan,

I have done all that I can so far. I never have in the entirety of my posts heard from anybody at LM about my issue and it isn't just me. I'm utilizing the fresh out of the plastic new 6800XT, which is additionally reported in the entirety of my posts.

@rakeshpatel,

I am a 6800XT owner and no device hung for me using 2015mhz for max frequency setting inside the radeon software (performance, tuning, gpu tuning) and everything else is stock. Been flying error free for awhile now. My default setting was like 2415 or something like that and got device hung all the time. The 2015 I stated is actually AMD's in game max frequency spec per their website so no clue why it ships out at 2400+.

I would also add that if your PSU is minimum 750 watt recommended per AMD that it may not be enough regardless of the AMD spec. I am running 850 watt PSU.

Good luck. I hope it helps you too.
