P3D Hotfix 5.1 causes DXGI Graphics card error
P3D Hotfix 5.1 causes DXGI Graphics card error
I have an Nvidia RTX 3080 with the current Nvidia driver 27.21.14.5730, Intel i9 10900, 32Gb on a Gigabyte Z490 board.
Every time I load the default flight, I get a CTD with a DXGI error. I've deleted my shader cache, no joy.

Re: P3D Hotfix 5.1 causes DXGI Graphics card error
Nvidia usually sells their cards through OEMs and not under their own brand name, and some of these OEMs are in the habit of overclocking the cards before they send them to the stores.
What brand is your 3080, and is it overclocked?
That is the first place I would look.
Your Windows 10 could do with an update, but the version you have should be OK. The most recent nVidia driver is reported by Geforce Experience as 457.30, which mat very well be the version you have.

Did you install this version of P3D from scratch, or did you upgrade from an earlier version?
If you installed from scratch, did you then run the installer as Administrator?

Re: P3D Hotfix 5.1 causes DXGI Graphics card error
Yes, that's exactly what I experience also. I did some posts about it here:
https://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopi ... 5&t=140619
Actually, I know that errors like that which only few people have, are extremely hard to track down. That's why some compynies who are selling special software are selling bundles consisting of hardware and software, tested already before delivery to garuantee that everything works fine.
The diversity of hardware out there does not allow to develop software that will run without any problems on every PC out there.
This said, I am ok to stay on 5.1 (without HF1) for now, waiting for the next release that hopefully will work for me then.
If not, I am perfectly willing to assist tracking possible causes if LM wants me to assist.

@ quid21 ,
"I am perfectly willing to assist tracking possible causes if LM wants me to assist."
With P3Dv5.1HF1 Client and Content installed.
Instead of loading the default flight try loading the LM saved flight Missing Coworker.

Re: P3D Hotfix 5.1 causes DXGI Graphics card error
Earlier in this thread, I asked this question:
"If you installed from scratch, did you then run the installer as Administrator?"
This is important, because if you did not run the installer as Administrator (that is, with Administrative rights), then the installer cannot install several required files at the beginning of the installation, and all else is futile.

Re: P3D Hotfix 5.1 causes DXGI Graphics card error
So, I now uninstalled 5.1 Content and Client and installed 5.1HF1 Content and Client. The default scenario (F-35A at KRND) crashed as usually with a DXGI hung error.
I restarted and loaded "Missing coworker". I was surprised it didn't crash. I'm now 5 minutes into the mission, still working.

Flying until now.
If I change the Maule paint scheme before loading the mission, I can the, after the mission is loaded, change location to KRND. Then I can fly and there is no crash.

Re: P3D Hotfix 5.1 causes DXGI Graphics card error
Did some more flying in 5.1HF1, just trying to do my normal flights for my VA, but after 3 crashes I reverted to 5.1 again.
So, no offense, I will patiently wait for a version that works for me. Or maybe once I upgrade to a 3080 or 3090 it will work anyway.

Quick question.
Do you reboot the PC after each flight or test?

No reboot. Just rebooted after switching to HF1 and now after switching back to 5.1.
Everything is ok again now in 5.1, just flying a leg for my VA.

Re: P3D Hotfix 5.1 causes DXGI Graphics card error
Apologies for the slow reply.
Graphics card is a Palit RTX 3080 Nvidia driver version is 457.30. GPU clock is default 1440 MHz, Memory is default 1188MHz and Boost is default 1710MHz. I don't do overclocking myself, but the card is as default from Palit.
I already have P3D V5.1 which worked then I ran the Professional Client HF1 update as Administrator as per update instructions.
Will try changing the default flight to the one mentioned above and will report back.
