I am currently on an I7-4790k with a slight OC at 4.5Ghz, 16GB RAM @ 1886Mhz, and a GTX970 but will be replaced in 1/2 days by a 1070Ti. My Screen is 1080P 60Hz, but I expect by January 2019 to go on a screen 1440P 75Hz (or 144Hz).

for months I wonder if it's worth upgrading my CPU with an I5-8600K (or I7-8700K), it would cost me about 600 € with the motherboard + RAM + CPU (or 750/800 € with the i7-8700K)

I learned about other forums for Gaming, many told me to keep my I7-4790K that would still do the job, just upgrade the RAM to have higher frequencies, 2133 or 2400Mhz, which would be better for P3D I think of 1886Mhz.

Here I learn mostly about P3DV4, if between an I7-4790K and an I5-8600K there will be a great performance gain won or not, and if in 1440P P3DV4 would be good with an I7-4790K and a GTX1070Ti.


As addon I do not use much, just ORBX Global without FTX because I find it useless in IFR. Activ sky 16 ', PMDG 777/747 and 737, QW 787, and some sceanery. No tomato/shaders or others.

I have a 4790k supporting 4k resolution, so it should work even better in 1440.

Agree... I ran a 4790K at 4.4GHz with a 980Ti card on a 4K display. Your CPU will do fine, just be sure to start with MSAA antialiasing and mid range sliders and slowing increase settings to balance your performance and quality.
