Seeking advice re suitable laptop for 5.2

Post by davidk64 »

Hi

Thinking of buying a laptop that I can take on the road with me to use v5.2 Academic.

These two laptops in the link below are possibilities and wondered if anybody has thoughts on their suitability please? I'm wondering how much difference 8Gb vs 6Gb graphics memory makes. I don't feel I need 1Tb SSD especially but if there is little or no difference in the two graphic cards I'd go with the laptop that has the extra SSD capacity.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi David,

Maybe a unexpected answer, but I can tell from my own experience: the most important thing in a laptop for flightsimming is COOLING!
As you know, flightsims demands a lot from your CPU, so it can get quite hot. When the CPU cooler doesn't manage to lower the temperature enough (which can happen quite soon in laptops), the following strategy is to lower the clock frequency... the result is less performance.
So, the best possible cooling would be my top priority.

Lots of disk space is also a good idea if you want to install lots of sceneries, and also if you want to run different sims on the same laptop. Personally, I can manage with 1TB SSD (all ORBX regions and LCs installed, and also 1 other flightsim on the samelaptop). But if you want to fly with ORBX products as TrueEarth, I would go for even more TBs.

And of course, check this page: https://www.prepar3d.com/system-requirements/
