Constant DXGI Hung V5.1 HF1
Constant DXGI Hung V5.1 HF1
As per the title, P3D is constantly crashing with the DXGI_DEVICE_HUNG error.
In Event viewer I sometimes get this message:
"Application Prepar3D.exe has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware."
A quick google search says this could be due to corrupt graphics drivers, but I have reinstalled my drivers 5 times using DDU in safe mode and am still getting this issue. I have even tried using older drivers but no change.
Certainly not a memory problem. I have a GTX 1080ti and the p3d VRAM rarely goes above 5GB.
GPU is not overclocked
I do not have this issue with any other program except P3D. I did not have these issues in 5.0 or 5.1 (without hotfix 1)
Short of doing a full factory reset on my PC, I wonder if LM have any advice?
I also have these errors in the event log at the same time as the sim crash

Re: Constant DXGI Hung V5.1 HF1
If you have any of these 2 add-ons:
1. FlightBeams KPDX
2. ChasePlane
then remove them.

Re: Constant DXGI Hung V5.1 HF1
After running into DXGI errors on almost every flight, a few things that had the most positive impact in mitigating the issue:
1. PFPX seems to cause the error for me if I'm running it (esp interacting with it) in the background
2. The latest nvidia drivers (in fact I've tried the last 4 and they're all bugged for me) cause issues on the RTX 3000. In nvidia control panel I need to set "prefer high performance" over "optimal power" at a global level
3. I've disabled Intel speedshift in my bios as it was contributing to #2
4. I've set tdrdelay = 10 in the registry
Seem to be able to complete a flight now, but will still occasionally run into the error.
Cheers

@ TomH101 ,
You mentioned:
“As per the title, P3D is constantly crashing with the DXGI_DEVICE_HUNG error.
I do not have this issue with any other program except P3D. I did not have these issues in 5.0 or 5.1 (without hotfix 1)”
How did you do the update to P3Dv5.1HF1?
Have you checked with your payware products developers to verify their products are approved for P3Dv5.1HF1?
Are you using any Add-ons currently still in Beta testing?
Notes:
Past Nvidia drivers have all worked ok for me (currently using 457.30).
I do not use Chaseplane so I cannot comment on that software.
I do use Ezdok and it is working well.
I use KPDX (Flightbeam) and have no problems to report with it or other of my FlightBeam airports.
I have PFPX but have not used it for the past couple of months.
I do not make any changes to mt Registry or PC system board.

Re: Constant DXGI Hung V5.1 HF1
When are you seeing a problem with Flightbeam KPDX e.g., departure, approach etc. ?
Has Chaseplane worked for you in previous P3D version?

Re: Constant DXGI Hung V5.1 HF1
Can confirm I'm having the same issue now. Last night the sim was completely fine, occasional DXGI error when messing with stuff but stable during actual flights. Wake up the next day and now the sim is unusable. DXGI errors a few seconds after loading into any aircraft at any airport.

What in common with previous posts?
And in your previous post you mentioned watching Netflix during your flight?

Re: Constant DXGI Hung V5.1 HF1
Playing around a bit last night, I changed "Multi Thread Optimisation" to Off, and Power Management mode to "Prefer Maximum Performance".
Then I deleted the Prepar3D.cfg to let it rebuild, and the DXGI crash seemed to stop happening.
Since opening up the sim again this morning, the DXGI_HUNG crashes have started again, so this only works as a temporary fix.
Unlikely to be a hardware issue, having run several different benchmarks and stress tests in 3DMark, all running completely fine.
Would be interested if this temporary trick works for other users?

Are you overclocking CPU or Graphics?

CPU is overclocked, and is stable. GPU is not overclocked.Martyson wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 4:13 pm@ TomH101 ,TomH101 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 4:00 pm Playing around a bit last night, I changed "Multi Thread Optimisation" to Off, and Power Management mode to "Prefer Maximum Performance".

This isn't a bug with watching Netflix. After I discovered that was the cause I stopped doing it and haven't had issues since. Until it started happening again for no reason..Martyson wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 3:54 pm@ YaBoi69420 ,YaBoi69420 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 3:46 pm Can confirm I'm having the same issue now. Re: Constant DXGI Hung V5.1 HF1
Did a bit more testing:
1) Deleted Prepar3D.cfg before launching sim. Managed to complete a 4 hour-long flight.
2) Closed P3D
2) re-opened P3D, to re-fly the same route, same plane, same addons installed, without deleting Prepar3D.cfg beforehand. DXGI_DEVICE_HUNG error again shortly after take-off.
3) Re-did step 1, flight worked perfectly again.
Not exactly a sustainable or practical solution.

Re: Constant DXGI Hung V5.1 HF1
P3D v5 when it came out gave me this error. Got the hotfix and it fixed the issue. P3D v5.1 came out and caused DXGI device hung. Stopped playing for a while, but fixed SOMETHING, not sure what, and was playable for some weeks. Got the most recent update and game stopped working again. Can't fly Aerosoft A318/19/20/21 or A330 and Qualitywings 787, but can fly the PMDG products flawlessly. I assume that TrueGlass and RealLight are the culprits, but they were fine before. Every other update causes this for me.
The thing is with this most recent update, I started getting DXGI removed errors instead of those annoying hung errors. Tried Tdr delays, addon removal and adding, blah blah blah just like everyone else does and nothing works unless a stable update comes out. Game is now unplayable unless I revert back to settings from 3.5 weeks ago before this update with the previous and whatnot. There will be some stability later. I hope that it comes soon, however. I am not very fond of how often this crashes my game given the situation that my computer is well more than capable of handling this situation. RTX 2060 Super, i7-9700k @ 4.9 GHz, 32 Gb 3600 Mhz Corsair ram, AIO cooler, 1 Tb SSD & 2 TB HDD. This computer I built is a beast with literally every simulation and video game I play, but LM comes out with a P5D update and completely screws my game up so badly that my graphics card crashes completely and my screens go black and the card restarts. It's really, really annoying.

Re: Constant DXGI Hung V5.1 HF1
I am running into the exact same issues. Tdrdelay/a few other things have helped mitigate but it still happens.
