P3DV5.1HF1 50% to 80% Frametime reduction EA mode on/off - VR comparison

Post by MPO910 »

I noticed since P3D V5.1HF1 the Frametime hit with WMR VR turned on and EA mode on is very big.

I have made 2x2 screenshots (4 total) which where made directly after each other. At Screenshot 2 of each set you see also the second Frametime counter from my prior screenshot.

The one with 50% to 80% lower frametimes (worse performance) is the one with EA mode on. 50% with Motion smoothing on and 80% with motion smoothing off

Stock F22
No weather, clear skies
No shader tweaks/or shader addons
VR with Single pass mode
SS in WMR at 149%
VR off had between 175 and 200FPS!!!

Picture 1 and 2 Motion smoothing WMR on
Only difference between them both is EA on and EA off. No further settings changed.

Picture 3 and 4 Motion smoothing WMR off

The difference is enormous since P3D V5.1HF1. Prior version 5.1 did almost not have any impact on my end. Specs you find below the screenshots. Location is South Tirol heading south from the alps torwards Milan Italy.
FL 360
Speed 225 Kts.

Since nvidia driver 460.79 and choosing "pre-render" in the LM P3D VR settings menu, my frametimes did go up to "normal" levels, as it seems to me. Performance increased about 30% average compared drivers to prior this version 460.79.

I can now maintain almost always 15ms to 17ms where before I got 21ms to 28ms (with my settings AND PMDG, FSLabs complex planes at bigger hubs like 3th party EDDF or KLAX!). This was impossible before.

Still there are some "hickups" (red and magenta lines in the frametimes counter), there seem to be a smaller "stutter" here and there.

So NVIDIA did change something to positive outcome.

I thought it is good to share here as LM has gotten many complains about VR performance and smoothnes.
