How To Change When Runway/Tarmac/Taxi Lights Turn On/Off

Post by cstei255 »

I thought I had posted last week, but must not have completed the post. Using P3D 4.3 and I would like to adjust the timing of when lights turn on/off in P3D. I have tired the following solution w/o success https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/4983 ... -too-late/.

Does P3D control all the lights simultaneously? For example, while on the tarmac starting my taxi the airport lights switched off as did the taxi light (default 737 - I assume what is happening is P3D is turning off the lighting effect - so the taxi light switch is still turned on, but the light does not illuminate the ground). My issue is the lights are either turning on too late or off too early.

Thank you for any help you may have.

Unfortunately, the post you referred to is inaccurate. The lights are controlled by the developer. See, for instance, http://flightbeam.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2429 where some of us complained about no lights in IFR conditions.

I reached out to the folks at Flightbeam and they have punted this back to P3D. Restating my question which isn't about runway lights turning on/off but rather while on the tarmac starting my taxi the airport lights switched off as did the taxi light (default 737 - I assume what is happening is P3D is turning off the lighting effect - so the taxi light switch is still turned on, but the light does not illuminate the ground). My issue is the lights are either turning on too late or off too early.

Is there someone from P3D that could answer this as it appears there is some confusion out there on what works. Thank you!

There is not a default 737 in Prepar3D.

Good point - I am using the default FSX 737 model which comes w/ the Sim Avionics software. WIth that in mind do you have some thoughts on a solution?

As it is not a v4 aircraft, I couldn't possibly think of anything of value for it. It's 3D model and all effects have not been designed to work with v4's lighting system.

You state they turn on/off at the wrong time... that's an ambiguous data point, could you be more detailed in the actual timing/location/season/weather/etc?

Thank you for the comments! Hopefully this will help. Five images showing the succession of night falling at KMKE (P3D V4.3 default airport).

Image 1 (7:26pm) - evening - no lights
Image 2 (7:51pm) - evening dusk - runway lights illuminated
Images 3/4 (8:07pm same time for both photos) - dusk - runway lights on. 737 lights are 'on' but not illuminating on runway.
Image 5 - (8:19pm) 737 lights now illuminate on runway.

In my opinion the landing lights would illuminate the runway starting around 7:51pm - my question is there a way to adjust P3D to allow this to happen. Thank you.

Slightly OT since I don't think that it's related to the lighting problem, but the runway textures are not default.
Where have you got them from?

I use REX 4 for textures.

Have you tested this with a v4 default aircraft?

[EDIT]
I have tested at KMKE with the times you've indicated using the Beech Baron 58 and found that the lights do indeed light up the runway surface at the expected times.

You are correct. Also Beech King and Carenado work well. Seems to be a FSX Default 737 issue. I will post over on Sim Avionics forum to see if there are suggestions - if anyone has thoughts let me know. Much appreciated WarpD!
