Prepar3D V5.2 fails to load

Post by Chris Claridge »

So in the exact same issue encountered here: https://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=133152 I've now run into this issue on 5.2.

Had a CTD during a flight that related to a Microsoft Office .dll (according to my search). Didn't think much of it and uninstalled Office since I don't use it. Bought the QW787 after the CTD but before loading the sim again, installed it, and ran into this error where the splash screen loads, says it's building scenery, then switches to another loading bar for a millisecond, and the scenario tool doesn't load but P3D.exe is running on my process manager at 20% system load. Uninstalled the QW787 thinking it did something weird, but no luck. Tried changing the 1 to a 0 according to the resolution in that 4.5 ticket, but no luck.

No other add-ons installed recently and everything was running fine for the past 6 months.

Try looking in Windows Event Viewer and see if there is an error report at the time of your crash.

If there is, please post it here.

This is the original error I had. There aren't any new errors, I'm guessing because the sim boots but doesn't initialize so there's no crash? The loading bars it shows for a second are "Loading Scenery" and "Loading Traffic" then goes "Loading Complete" like it's trying to jump straight into a flight? But no settings were changed to make it attempt that. Not using VR.

This exception code in your error report:

0xc0000005

means that something, most likely a badly programmed or incompatible add-on, has tried to write to an area of RAM where it had no access rights. But in this case, because of this module:

mso20win32client.dll

it might have something to do with MS Word as the culprit trying to write where it had no access rights.

Several threads have in the past dealt with similar MS Word module issues, if you search the forums for MS Word you should find them easily and see the possible solutions for you.

That was the cause of the CTD, but not what's causing the sim to fail to load at all now. I've already uninstalled the office suite so I don't see how it could continue to pose a problem.

Well, something or other is definitely doing something that it should not, that is what that exception code says.

You may want to uninstall your most recently added add-on and see if that helps.

Did a complete uninstall, drive wipe, and re-install. Sim worked. Installed the PMDG line up and ASP3D, all of which had been working for 6 months with no issues, and it caused the same issue. Kinda given up at this point, this is the pickiest game I've ever dealt with. Almost not worth it to have beg and plead a piece of software to function.

@ Chris Claridge ,

"Installed the PMDG line up and ASP3D"
Did you install them one at a time ?

Which one is causing your problem now?

Just to verify you did not install any scenery, correct?

What are your system specs ?

I installed them in bulk, which I guess was a mistake but I uninstalled them one at a time and tested after each uninstall with no luck. No scenery, my system can't handle it well without the VRAM issues we all know so well. Why one of them would cause the sim to break after running for hundreds of hours is beyond me.

@ Chris Claridge ,

As of now P3Dv5 will not load the default flight, correct?

Was you system verified ok for WIN11 Upgrade?

Correct, it will load the splash screen and then display a "Loading Scenery Bar" for half a second before disappearing and only showing in the Task Manager. The issue is identical to the linked post in the first post here.
