How to get started with SDK?

SDK supports Prepar3D’s philosophy of an open development architecture and encourages third parties to bring new innovations with improved add-ons and training content.

How to get started with SDK?

Post by AviatorVertex »

Hello all,

I'm new to P3D Development. While I've been a flight simmer for 15 years, this is my first try at developing addons. I have no idea where to begin or what programs I need to use. Can someone help me get the ball rolling?

Thank you.

Sure, a couple good ideas to get started are finding satellite imagery to import, or importing new elevation models using the resample.exe tool. After you have your imagery as a .bgl you can use the autogen editor to add some trees or generic buildings. Airports and 3d modeling are some other next steps but using 3rd party tools for those is essential. I should note that some tool to format imagery and elevation models may also be required to get a '.tif' type image in the right coordinate system.

cordially,

Max
