P3D V5 Microstutter possible fix! (Dynamic Tick = disable)

Post by zalcantar »

Ok, so I've been dealing with this issue for a long time, and I know other might be also. I think I may have found a fix:

1- Right-click the Start menu and select Command Prompt (Admin).
2- First, enter "bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes" and press Return.
3- Then input "bcdedit /set useplatformclock true" in the Command Prompt, and press the Enter key.
4- Thereafter, enter "bcdedit /set tscsyncpolicy Enhanced" in the Prompt and press Return.
5- Close the Command Prompt window and restart the system.

So far, I have a huge huge improvement. I'm wondering if V5 uses some sort of process that it really affected by the "dynamic tick" on some systems.

I would love to hear if others have any improvements because of this.

Zalcantar,

I do not have a hat, but if I did, I would take it off for you for finding this.

This is pure gold, especially for people with laptops and low-performance systems.

The WindowsReport article mentions some parts that I have done already, but that I am reluctant to advise people about, because this is how I personally use my own system. Those parts are turning off or disabling background tasks, and uninstalling the "bloatware" that Microsoft in their wisdom sees fit to enrich our lives with.

I have also disabled Cortana, another resource-demanding piece of whatever.

A lot of help in freeing up resources can also be found by googling "tuning windows 10", and by looking at YouTube for videos by Britec09.

Again, kudos to you for finding this.

My pleasure! I will take a look at that article. This small setting has been so hard to find, and I was starting to hate my laptop. Especially for mobile simmers like me, I hope this thread well become useful and maybe could help out LM if they're about to tune performance even more.

I did this trick. Whilst the settings in themselves did not remove my stutters, they did more than DOUBLE my frame rate, thus allowing me to use Nvidia half refresh rate and vsync and maintain a SILKY SMOOTH sim at 30 FPS! And that is with three 100" projection screens with three undocked windows AND a six year old CPU!!!!

So far this is the motherlode. Thank you for the tip! Hopefully these settings won't melt my cpu ;-)

I tried this, but it turned my pc (9700k) really sluggish with slow opening Windows and generally poor performance. Felt like if gone back 10 years!
Use with caution!

It did the same to my pc as well , became almost unusable. Had an anxious hour trying to undo it but eventually found a solution. Not sure why I tried it as the sim is running nicely.

I tried but I had to rehabilitate Dynamic tick it on Windows 10 2004 because it increased me considerably stutters with very low fps that made P3D 5 not playable.

I'm wondering if the new windows version mitigates the problem some have with the dynamic tick function. Did you have poor performance before trying to disable the tick?

From my research it works for some people perfectly, and others the opposite it's really weird. I think generally if you're having problems then this should be something to try otherwise it's not worth it.

Zalcantar,

We need the Windows version from people where the fix does not work, but what is your own version?

That´s an article I posted already on March 24 and we discussed it there

https://prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 2&t=136609

It did help but not for long.

Sorry, its 1909. My laptop is not ready for it yet according to MS. Interesting how significant this fix was for me. Maybe only because I'm running it on a laptop..

You are correct, it would be interesting to know if the systems where it fails - or works - are laptops or desktops.
