CTD when selecting Air Traffic View

Sometimes when trying to view other aircraft flying in the area on VATSIM, I select the option in the views menu which opens a window, and shows available aircraft to view that are inflight, or on the ground in close proximity. Occasionally when selecting a particular aircraft to view, the sim freezes and then I get a CTD with no messages, just a sudden shutdown. I only attempt this while parked at a gate. There's no pattern that I can point to, it appears to be totally random. I only do something like this after my flight is complete, so I won't have to start all over again if I happen to get a CTD. This also used to happen when I had FSX. I have high end hardware, and use lots of addon scenery and aircraft, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Thanks.
