DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG

Post by STAO »

Hi people!
I'm new to this forum and simulator, and i'm having a huge issue.. Did a clean install according to instructions on my sons laptop. Only programs on the computer is Windows 10. AVG Anti virus program (Disabled) Everything else was deleted off this computer prior to instalation.

My problem is: When starting Prepar3D it starts and comes up with the initial start scene on the runway. After about 10 seconds the page goes black and i get the following message:
This device (AMD Radeon R3 Graphics) stopped working for the following reason: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE HUNG. Do you want to exit Prepar3D?

Specs on laptop is: AMD A4-7210 APU, AMD Radeon R3 Graphics card, 1,80 Ghz, 4 GB RAM, Windows 10 64 bit

Getting frustrated here as i can not find any solution. Somebody out there that can help?

Best regards
STAO

I also have the same problem. Does it have something to do with the new nvidia drivers?

Hello,

Do you have any add-ons installed? Some are known to exacerbate this issue.

Overall, this error prompt is letting you know the graphics card has failed.

First, you will want to make sure your GPU drivers are updated. Next, you will want to double check that your graphic card is set to be used by Prepar3D. Finally, you will want to lower Prepar3D's graphics settings to better conform to any hardware limitation. For more information take a look at our FAQs: http://www.prepar3d.com/frequently-asked-questions/

Code: Select all

Prepar3D does not start, instantly shuts down, or does not perform as expected. What is wrong?

Ensure the proper graphics card is set to run Prepar3D. If an onboard video card (Intel HD) is told to run Prepar3D, these issues will likely occur. To correct, use the appropriate video card software to configure the graphic card’s control of Prepar3D. For NVIDIA graphics cards, open the NVIDIA Control Panel, select Manage 3D settings, and set the Preferred graphics processor to High-performance NVIDIA processor. You can also set Prepar3D.exe’s preferred graphics processor directly under the Program Settings tab under Manage 3D settings.

Often you might need to delete the following generated folders/files to have Prepar3D respect your changes. This will result in any add-ons being removed/disabled.
%PROGRAMDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3
%APPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3

Verify the fix was successful by opening Prepar3D and selecting Options, Settings, and under Full Screen Settings you should see the correct graphics card listed under Display.

Hi Adam,
I am unsure if this is the issue but under the fullscreen settings I see two versions of my GPU,
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960.0.0
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960.0.1

Now because of the small text box it doesn't display which one I was using initially so I have assumed it was the 0.0 and have changed it to display using the 0.1 version. I'll inform you if anything changes.

Just want to report the same problem with the last version of the P3D client. My last flights have all suddenly terminated with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG. And I'm really not sure if I did any recent adjustments to my system to trace the problem to either. I have reinstalled the most recent Nvidia drivers, using DDU to clean up between. The DXGI error just pops up from nowhere after 10-60 minutes of flying.
Kind regards,

All,

Do you have any add-ons installed?

Also, are you using NVIDIA Inspector or any hardware accelerators/overclockers?

Each of those could contribute to failures/hangs of the GPU, causing Prepar3D to fail.

Let us know,

I too have this since a while. Before the recent hotfix (2) P3D started crashing now and then. Since hotfix 2 the same is happening but now its showing the: Nvidia drivers stopped, error. I reduced the amount of times it happens by disabling hardware tesselation, but sometimes p3d still crashes.

In my case of course I do not have Nvideo Inspector running as the R200 is an AMD Card.
This problem did not exist before the update to hotfix2.
THis problem is persistant though the time to crash is variable.
My system is not overclocked.
I am including part of the dxdiag report as the board will not take more.
if you need other parts I will add to seperate messages.

It happened since I updated Chaseplane to v. 1.509 Alpha.
Did you do the same?? Could it be the guilty?

Is this product in testing / not approved for P3D yet?

https://fsfxpackages.com/en/ChasePlane/
ChasePlane is currently in Alpha. That means that ChasePlane is not a stable, final product and that tests, changes, addition or removal of features are possible.
