Saitek Yoke & Pedals Freezing Up

Post by BG2518 »

I'm posting on behalf of one of our multiplayer group members who use a Saitek Yoke and pedals and find that in multiplayer they freeze up after about 2-3 minutes of use which does NOT happen outside of multiplayer.

I know this sounds strange but it is TRUE.

The connection to the host is NOT lost.

The controls are simply frozen and the aircraft just carries on in whatever way the settings for control were at.....

The hat switch on the yoke and assigned buttons apparently still work.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Using latest P3D version BTW for both host server and client.

Why and how multiplayer can have this effect against simple single user flight, I have NO idea?

We have nobody in the group using the same hardware to check this against.

Not an issue on previous versions of P3D I'm told.

Hi Bob,

Do other forms of flight control continue to work (i.e. mouse yoke or keyboard commands)?

Clifton,

Many thanks for taking up the reins on this.

To answer you, other forms of flight control that you name DO continue to work.

We have tested with a Saitek X 52 joystick also and have the same results i.e. failure to control aircraft pitch roll yaw with controllers but buttons still function.

Bob,

Which version or Prepar3D are you using? Also, have you tried enabling Direct Input control mode via Options > Settings > Controls > Other Tab?

Thanks.

As mentioned previously, our multiplayer is using the latest version including the client. The direct input option solves this issue. But the user cannot exit multiplayer without P3D crashing. So,although this is a fix it is not 100% ideal.

Many thanks.

Hi Bob,

How is the user exiting mulitplayer when they receive the crash? Are they simply using "Exit Multiplayer" from the menu bar or closing the main window? Also, what type of scenario is the multiplayer session running, standard or structured?

Thanks.

Hi Clifton,

The crash is via "Exit Multiplayer". I know that because they wished to get back to single user mode.

The session is a simple standard one.

Many thanks again.

Also seeing this behaviour within the sim making the multiplayer use case of share aircraft virtually useless.

Scenario - Player 1 and Player 2

Player 1 hosts and shares aircraft, player 2 connects.
Player 1 moves moves joystick and controls move.
Player 1 transfers control to player 2.
Player 2 moves joystick and controls move.

<some time later 2,3,4 minutes>

Player 2 moves joystick and controls wont move.
Player 2 transfers controls to player 1.
Player 1 moves joystick and controls also don't work.

You can then transfer back to player 2 as many times as you like but they'll never be able to move the control surfaces.

Any inputs via clicking buttons etc. work fine, only controls for bank, pitch and yaw will not move.

If we reverse the actual person who is player 1 and player 2 exactly the same i.e. it appears NOT be to a hardware issue with the player.

This is using the default Baron and a few other aircraft.
