Flickering ground textures - shadows?

I'm noticing a flickering of ground textures with a shadow-looking texture in various locations (I can get a screenshot if desired.) Is this a problematic shadow being cast by a weird object? This is with FTX Global + Vector, and I can often get it to go away by telling Terrain not to receive shadows. Anyone else seeing this? They're polygonal-shaped and of various sizes.

You can see them to the left of the dash, they're flickering (obviously not in the static shot.)

Edit: I can confirm disabling terrain receives shadows fixes the issue, but doesn't look as nice.

Just a side note, you can also see in that screenshot that autogen only seems to draw a few hundred yards, maybe a mile or two at most - is that everyone's experience?
