Clarification Please

Post by JohnVulcan »

I've always updated P3D V4 using the three uninstall/install new client, content and scenery components method, but this has resulted in me having the following four entries as installed programs:-

Prepar3D v4 Professional --------- Lockheed Martin -- 05-Aug-2019 -- 37.2GB -- 4.2.2.1.24048
Prepar3D v4 Content -------------- Lockheed Martin -- 03-Jan-2020 -- 10.7GB -- 4.5.13.32097
Prepar3D v4 Scenery -------------- Lockheed Martin -- 03-Jan-2020 -- 15.5GB -- 4.5.13.32097
Prepar3D v4 Professional Client - Lockheed Martin -- 03-Jan-2020 -- 559 MB -- 4.5.13.32097

Please clarify, should the first entry 'Prepar3D v4 Professional', being version 4.2.2.1.24048 actually be there? Does it need to be updated and if so how? Or does it need to be uninstalled and if so will uninstalling it corrupt the v4.5 installation?

Regards,
John

Sorry Jorgen, but what do you mean please?

Would you clarify please, is it meant to be like that? Is yours like that for instance?

Is this entry an essential part of P3D or should I remove it as it is out of date?

John

Let me put it like this:

Prepar3D v4 Professional --------- Lockheed Martin -- 05-Aug-2019 -- 37.2GB -- 4.2.2.1.24048
- this is the base, or foundation, if you will, of the whole 9 yards

Prepar3D v4 Professional Client - Lockheed Martin -- 03-Jan-2020 -- 559 MB -- 4.5.13.32097
- this will make the whole thing work

And these two:

Prepar3D v4 Content -------------- Lockheed Martin -- 03-Jan-2020 -- 10.7GB -- 4.5.13.32097
Prepar3D v4 Scenery -------------- Lockheed Martin -- 03-Jan-2020 -- 15.5GB -- 4.5.13.32097

- makes you see the world in simulation.

That does help, thanks. So it is required then and I'll have to assume that being an older version of v4 does not matter.

I'm surprised that LM's otherwise excellent update instructions don't mention this. They go into great detail on updating the Client, Content and Scenery components, but not a single mention is made of the fourth entry and the version number anomaly that occurs after each update. A few words to this effect would be a great help.

Cheers.

Allow me to quote:

"They go into great detail on updating the Client, Content and Scenery components" - the remaining part is the server in a client-server environment, and does not need to be updated.

Only if and when a v. 5 of P3D was to come out, would you need a new server - but then you would also need new everything else, and it would most likely have to be bought, with a new license and everything, like a completely new simulator.

"a client-server environment" thanks Jorgen, good to know, makes more sense now.
