I want to update P3D v 4.1 to v 4.2. I can do this by using only the Client. And then all add-ons (Orbx scenery,GSX etc.) will not be affected. Right? If I choose to update from the entire package v 4.2 or from the indvidual installers (Client,Scenery and Content) to get everything new from v 4.2 installed - then I have to install any add-on from scratch. Right?

Yes that is correct, the Client componont will update Prepar3D v4 to a more recent version and will have the least effect on your 3rd party Add On's. Utility Add On's like Active Sky 2016 and FSUIPC will need to be updated for Prepar3D v4.2 after a Client update
