[RESOLVED] V3 will NOT install

Post by OnCourse »

Hi,

Tried all the suggestions on here but still cannot get P3D V3 to install !!!

It keeps telling me 'Prepar3D V3 Content Requires Prepar3D V3 to be installed'. Huh? Well that's what I'm trying to do.

The log file shows the following errors

[0D8C:0B3C][2015-10-15T16:44:51]i301: Applying execute package: Content, action: Install, path: C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{CE8E65FC-9BE3-438A-8449-BCD5E8ACC6BE}v3.0.10.14945\Install_Content.msi, arguments: ' ALLUSERS="1" MSIFASTINSTALL="7" CONTENT="F:\FSims\P3D"'

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

How are trying to install? Using the MSI installers or setup.exe?

I removed your little rant on support ;) Just because its not Instant doesn't mean its not going to happen.

Sometimes this error is a result of registry being corrupt as far as P3Dv3 is concerned.

Have you tried to do a complete uninstall? Removing any folders that did get created in a failed install? Did you try running setup.exe as admin (right click run as admin). Sometimes installers need to run as admin while installing all the prerequisites.

Are you comfortable editing the registry? Remove the P3D v3 stuff.

Did you see any other unusual thing in the log file?

I assume F:\FSims\P3D has nothing in it when you install.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your reply.

I know I've tried all this before but I did so again, for the sake of my sanity.

1. Deleted all folders and files left over from previous attempt to install

2. Deleted Program Data\Package Cache

3. Checked registry for any references to 'Lockheed' (nothing found)

4. Checked registry for any references to 'Prepar3D' (nothing found)

Attempted to install again.

Progress bar got to approximately 75%

Checking Control Panel Uninstall display I could see Visual C++ 2013 Redistributables have been installed
Also Prepar3D V3 Professional @ 28.4 MB
And Prepar3D V3 Professional Client @ 156 MB

The install folder on my F drive is showing 156 MB of content.

The Program Data\Package Cache is show 9.78 GB of content

Desktop shortcut has been created and points to 'Prepar3D.exe' which is in my install folder

Message displayed 'Prepar3D V3 Content requires Prepar3D V3 to be installed... OK that...

Next message 'Warning 1910. Could not remove Shortcut Prepar3D V3.lnk. Verify that the shortcut file exists and that you can access it'. Yep it exists and if I double click the program starts and asks me to Activate, which I obviously don't do at this stage because the P3D installer is in the process or rolling everything back.

Once I OK this message the shortcut us removed plus Prepar3D V3 Pr and Pro Client. The VC Redistributables are left.

Finally the message 'Setup Failed' is displayed with a link to the log file... the extract pertaining to errors I included in my original post.

It sounds like you've got a corrupt download. Have you verified the MD5 Checksums?
Also similar results can occur if you have a faulty RAM stick, or overclocked RAM. If the MD5 checksums checkout then I'd run a Memory checker just for peace of mind.

Thanks Saul,

Checksums were the first thing I checked and I did so on each individual setup file and they are all okay.

Just ran a memory checker and no problems detected.

I have tried the install on a Win 8.1 machine and that works, so I know the files are okay. Problem I have is the Win 8 machine is not beast enough to run P3D. The PC I'm trying to install on is Win 7 Pro

I don't have any problem editing the registry but I need to know what to edit. I would have thought the error messages displayed should be enough to tell the script dev what is wrong here.

I've had a thought.. I read a report that TeamSpeak can disrupt the installation if its running in the background. Perhaps I'd try disabling all non-essential processes and then try again.

Thanks Saul but I did that last night... infact I stopped everything but the essential services plus my AV. Still the same. Gets to about 75% then says it needs Prepar3d installed !!

I had a similar problem earlier this week when I installed on an overclocked PC. Although the installation finished so its not exactly the same I did notice that the Registry entry was corrupted because the SDK then refused to install.

I couldn't uninstalled because the uninstallers become corrupted also. All I could do was re-set the Overclock to normal then Format the whole system and start again. After I did that all was fine for me.

Are you Overclocking your PC?
