[RESOLVED] UNABLE TO JOIN MP VIA DIRECT IP

Post by Brindle »

Greetings,

I, and four other players were planning on doing a video (i.e., landing on a carrier & taking off at the same time).
My excitement was short-lived when everyone was able to join on a specific IP address except me. So I was left out of the video...

I am able to join the lobby and see the players in the lobby.
When I 'hit' join, another box appears, asking if I want to join session (of course) - so I click 'Yes'.

Within 5 seconds or less, I crash back to desktop. By the way, this was our first time using 'direct connect' as we will be using it more (more members upgrading to V4).

Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Roy

Hi Brindle,

I'd recommend isolating the issue by disabling your add-ons and trying again. It is a good approach to simply connect to one other user to see if a single connection is possible. If others are connecting, it could be something related to your firewall, router, or network. If you have a second machine on your local network, it would be helpful to see if you can connect to it.

It looks like I have it working. (I do have a network with a 'host' PC) I was able to connect to it.
Then, I asked someone to host their PC and I was able to connect with no issues.

This is what I did to fix the connection:

Went to my 'host' PC, signed in to my router. (checked the box) - Disable SIP ALG within the WAN Setup screen.
(I was looking for the 'Disable SPI Firewall' but NetGear has a 'later' version, which does not have it. Apparently, it's a combination of port forwarding on one page and 'unblocking' on another - too complex).

As weird as it may seem, one check mark in a box made it work. "..it can't be that easy", I thought.

On a side note, before I tested the connections - The 'Night Hawk x10' router had a firmware update, waiting for me to run. Then, there was an update on the NetGear software itself. Maybe this is what mixed the actual problem.
