[RESOLVED] Correct sound setup for headphones?
[RESOLVED] Correct sound setup for headphones?
In using headphones with p3d what is the correct way to setup sound device so that directional sounds are heard correctly? In win 7 there seems to be only a stereo mode selectable that shows two speakers in front which perhaps produce stereophonics according to that sound source placement, which may not be as suitable when wearing headphones. Does a setting exist in windows or p3d to enable for headphones, or the difference does not matter much and the surround sound is correct enough?

Re: Correct sound setup for headphones?
Hello,
This will depend on your headphones. If the headphones contain two speakers they will be treated as a stereo device in Prepar3D. A lot of manufacturers emulate surround sound by applying their own effects to the audio. This is usually configured using a separate application provided by the manufacturer.

Re: Correct sound setup for headphones?
Thanks for the info. After some search found the manufacturer does not provide virtual surround software for the headphones in use. However also found that the emulated surround is known to cause distortion in sounds and other undesirable artifacts beside its imperfections making it worse than direct stereo, and that the best outcome is implementation by 3d application itself of treating sound sources right next to directed towards the ears when producing audio. Hope this gets implemented at some point in future.
