Flickering

Post by 72westy »

I upgraded my AMD Crimson drivers from 17.10.2 to 17.11.1 and now notice subtle flickering of the screen when moving the mouse around in either 2D or VC cockpit of any aircraft.

I was not receiving this with the previous 17.10.2 drivers. Anyone else with an AMD card notice this? I did submit a report on the AMD site. System info in my signature. This is with P3Dv3.4.22.19868 and Windows 10 Pro 64bit 1709 OS build 16299.64

I've not received any crashes of P3D since upgrading (11/22/17) Windows 10 to the current build.

Update:

I did a clean uninstall using the AMD utility then installed the 17.10.3 drivers but the issue is still present. The only other thing that has changed on my system is that Windows 10 Pro updated from 1703 OS build 15063.608 to 1709 OS build 16299.64

I'm not receiving any crashes of the sim since the upgrade.

It only flickers when moving around in the cockpit on the panel/s themselves such as switches, knobs etc.

Update:

Applies to P3Dv3.4.22.19868

I've now confirmed this issue happens when running in full screen mode. If I switch to windowed mode there is no flickering when moving mouse around. Switch back to full screen and flickering will start up again when moving mouse around buttons/switches under Windows 10 Pro 1709 OS build 16299.64

Currently running 17.11.2 Crimson drivers but this occurred with older drivers as well. I believe strongly it has something to do with the jump from Windows 10 Pro 64bit 1703 OS build 15063.608 to 1709 OS build 16299.64

Update:

Restoring to Windows 10 Pro 1703 OS build 15063.726 resolves the flickering issue as well as white flashing contrail/s and wing tip smoke I was also observing with 1709 OS build 16299.64

Update the flickering in cockpit no longer exists but the small flashing in contrail & wing tip is still happening.

The following is the link on AMD's site regarding the issue with screenshot/s. Perhaps you Lockheed guys can light a burner under them to get this resolved.

I have the same issue, only I'm an NVIDIA user. When in full-screen, the screen flickers when I move the mouse. This does not happen when in windowed mode.

I found a temporary fix that removes the flickering without having to go back to Win 10 B1703. I went to Mouse Properties | Pointer Options, enabled "Display pointer trails" and set trails to short. The screen flickering in P3Dv4.1 is now gone. I can live with the slightly less appealing mouse movement until Microsoft issues a fix.

I have no idea if this will help others, but it does the trick for me.

Best Regards,
Doug

I submitted an AMD report and they are aware of the issue and told me to continue using the 17.10.2 drivers.

Check and be sure after right clicking on the desktop shortcut for P3D that the 'Disable fullscreen optimizations' is check marked. That solved the flickering issue I had in the cockpit when in fullscreen.
