F-16's MFD performance

Post by SkyKaptn »

The MFDs in the F-16 drain a lot of computing power. I am seeing a 30-40% drop in framerates when I turn them on. This is nowhere near the drain I am seeing from other aircrafts MFDs, both stock and add-on planes. I am thinking this has to be in the way it is coded since it stands out so abysmally poor compared.

I am running an i7 4790K @4Ghz coupled with gtx1080 and 16GB RAM On this spec I cannot even notice a drain on other aircrafts when I turn on the MFD.

What are the frame rates on all aircraft you tested ... not a % figure?

It drops from 40 avg. down to 25ish on my install with some orbx products. On a clean install I get about 50-55fps, but that too drops down to 35ish.

Is your setting set to Unlimited?

Are you talking F16 or Orbx?

Which other aircraft are you testing that has no drop?

1: My setting is set to 30fps so I get perfect loading of sceneries without pop-ins. But this is of no importance for the thread.
2: I am talking about the plane F-16 that is default in P3D
3: All of them

It is only on this particular plane with this particular MFD set there is a performance drop of this magnitude. No matter the graphics settings, scenery settings, add-ons or not.

I am trying to get set up information so I can do a quick test to duplicate your situation.
If your setting is set to 30fps why did you mention 50 something in previous post?
Which add-on/payware planes have you tested without this fps drop?

On a clean install I do not need to limit the rate down to 30. The sims runs with no pop-ins and very smooth at ca 50fps then. But that is until I turn on the MFDs on the F-16.

ORBX: Norway, vectors, Global base pack, EU landclass, trees

It is very easy to reproduce. Just sit on the runway on watch the fps counter drop as the MFDs are powered on. No matter what is installed, or clean install.

I do not have that aircraft.
Have you tested any other add-on / payware? You had mentioned add-on planes.

Did your F16 flight start cold and dark and you then powered up and then turned on the MFD?

Both cold and dark and ramped.
I do not think I am getting through..
-It happens even on a clean install
Sit on the runway, load in your F-16 and watch the fps counter take a freefall.

Does the A2A bonanza have an MFD?

I would like to test several aircraft with MFD's.

Ok, I dod not have the A2A Bonanza with an MFD.

Which other add-on / payware with MFD have you tested that has the MFD FPS fall?
