App Crash v. 4.2.21.24048

Post by vafpilot »

Hello,

For about the past month I've been getting an "APPCRASH" after closing P3D v4.2. I've reinstalled the client at least twice which did not fix it (obviously). It's not a huge deal because up until now it only did it when I shut down the sim. However, today the sim crashed/stopped working and I didn't receive any error codes but I'm curious if the two may be connected.

Here is what I was able to copy from the "APPCRASH" message:

I'm more concerned about the crash of the sim during the flight today than the error at the end but if they are somehow connected I'd like to get it fixed. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

I tried the same with reinstalling the client but it didn’t work for me either. I am hoping someone from LM will respond to this thread and hopefully there is a fix. For me it started when I updated to 4.2.

"I've been getting an "APPCRASH" after closing P3D v4.2"

I am seeing this (Fault Module Name: api.dll) also since about May 6, 2018.

I have not tracked down the cause yet.

Note:
P3D v3 does not have the problem as far as I have tested.

Hello,

Can you try going through our general debugging steps to see if it helps isolate the issue?

Are you seeing this on a clean installation?

Edit: I posted (replied) in this Professional Plus area but forgot to mention I have seen the problem in P3D v4.2 Academic.

The sim crashed again today. This time it was the "terrain.dll". For some reason it appears I'm not getting emails when updates are posted to the forum, but I will go back and try the suggestions again and report back.

Hello vafpilot,

To help us identify where the issue is coming from we typically ask users to run through the general debugging steps so we can determine if it happens in Default Prepar3D or if it only happens with an add-on. If it only happens with a certain add-on, we request that you reach out to the add-on developer for support. If the add-on developer then needs any support with development, they should not hesitate to contact us.

Just to verify.
Are you getting both API.dll (original post) and Terrain.dll errors now?

The problem did seem to start after updating to 4.2 using the client installer with regard to the api.dll issue on shutdown which happens every time.

Today, it crashed after about an hour of flight with the "terrain.dll" error. I've been using the sim for multiple hours of flight at a time so I have no idea why the CTD today. There is no addon for scenery so again I'm not sure why it happened.

api.dll issue on shutdown which happens about 50% of the time for me.

I have never had a terrain.dll error.

I tried searching this forum for Terrain.dll but the search engine informed me it was too common a search word .. so no results.

Appcrash happens ever time i close P3D and im talking about v4.1 so its a long overdue fix that affects other versions as well, not just 4.2.

Not sure what is causing it. I get this under FSX Steam all the time but P3D did not exhibit these crashes which is why i preferred to use it over FSX. But something changed and after awhile 4.1 is crashing without fail every time i fly.

Well, it seems it’s not just me which is good to know. I’m thinking if it’s happening to others every time as well then it’s probably not an addon. The troubleshooting provided seems like you basically need to do a clean reinstall and then install one addon at a time. Of course that will take untold hours and may or may not provide a solution as you might need to do it more than once to make sure it’s not a fluke. I’ve also updated all of my drivers so I don’t think that’s the culprit.

At this point, I’d be happy if it ONLY crashes when I shut down: not during flight.

Are you the only pilot reporting the Terrain.dll error?

Which aircraft were you flying?
