Unable to install FSX-SP2-XPACK SimConnect with P3Dv4.2

Post by whitav8 »

With P3Dv4.2 , I am unable to install FSX-SP2-XPACK SimConnect from the folder:
C:\MYINSTALLFOLDER\redist\Interface\FSX-SP2-XPACK\retail\lib

I get the following error:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly
Microsoft Flight Simulator SimConnect, version = 10.0.61.259.0 type = win32 processor architecture=x86
public key token = 67c7c14424d61b5b

Hello,

Was this version of SimConnect already installed? If you remove this version completely and then install do you see the same error?

Rob,
Now after rebooting and making sure that it doesn't appear in the Installed list from the Control Panel, and running as Administrator in a CMD window and just executing simconnect.msi, it starts fine, doesn't provide an error, but just hangs with the progress bar at about 50% (for many minutes) and never completes.
I checked The Control Panel and it does list it as installed:
Micro.....Client v10.0.61259.0 1.74 mb

But the application that I am trying to use (what other test would there be ?) is JoinFS and it doesn't connect to the sim. It was the app that asked for this particular client to be installed.

Still no luck - but the Windows Installer (with or without "Run as Administrator" ) now always gives that error:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly
Microsoft Flight Simulator SimConnect, version = 10.0.61.259.0 type = win32 processor architecture=x86
public key token = 67c7c14424d61b5b

and closes instead of hanging (I did some service start/stops and reboots) - right after the error popup - typing "OK" - the installer closes quickly and nothing is installed.

I am running an Intel 980X 6-core CPU on Windows 10.0.14393 64-bit .

I have rebooted several times.

Rob,
While I try to figure out this Error Message for installing SimConnect (BTW, none of the other Simconnect.msi's work either),
I just want to thank your team for the latest v4.2 VR Single Pass ( and other items ) improvements. VR with medium object shadows, in Paulo Ricardo's Rio de Janiero is amazing. Downtown airport, lot of buildings (but great FPS performance) and hills and many objects with several other airports to explore. Fly a helicopter in VR and enjoy!

Rob,
I tried installing msxml 4.0 - somebody said to try that - no joy.

I found that some others have had the same problem - no solution though:

Rob,
I still can't install the SimConnect.msi - it errors out or just hangs. Do you know of any debugging concepts or log files that I could use to try to figure it out. Maybe I need to stop some processes (I turn off my Anti-virus for example) or clean my registry. I don't know what the install is trying to do - is there any other way of doing the install?

On another note - could L-M add a way to adjust the SuperSampling (Pixel Density Override) parameter inside of P3D ? A setting of 1.5 makes the image quite a bit clearer - so I can just about read the F-16 HUD.

Finally, the F-16 HUD is still hard to read in VR - It would nice if it could have an option to be bigger. BTW, flying in the Grand Canyon with Bluesky scenery or other photoreal is amazing in your F-16. My SimDirector scenario (that you helped me with) at Grand Canyon West airport with many other aircraft circling provides a lot of fun - formation flying with a C-130 or F-35 for example

Thanks much

Hi Dave,

Can you try manually removing that SimConnect dll after running the uninstaller? The uninstall may not have completely removed the file. Then try installing again afterwards.

Rob,
I don't know where to look for the SimConnect.dll

BTW, I only have an Academic License anymore - any chance that is a SImConnect issue? I don't see a SimConnect.xml, DLL.xml or EXE.xml or SimConnect.ini ... in C:\Users\whita\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4

Rob,
NOTE: I am not using "Program Files" location for Prepar3D - just C:\P3Dv4

OK - I keep looking - I went to the Windows directory in a Folder called WinSxS\InstallTemp (I did a search for Simconnect.dll) and I found the elements of the attempts to install with SimConnect.msi :
