[RESOLVED] P3D v4 stutters after ~3-4 hours of flight
Hello Guys,
I have read tons of topics about stutters, tried to implement solutions into my sim, but it didn't work... That's why I decided to open new topic, because my "stutters" problem is kinda different I suppose.
Problem:
My problem are stutters, which appear after 4-5 hours of the flight. Taxi, take off and first phase of flight is smooth, but after few hours (can't say excatly when, because meanwhile I am sleeping or doing other things) I am getting micro stutters (freezes every 3 seconds I think). As for today I've made 6 long hauls flights, and the scenario was always the same as I described above.
PC specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K (no OC)
GPU: EVGA GeForce 1080Ti
Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait
RAM: Crucial Ballstix 2x8GB DDR3 1666 mHz
PSU: Corsair RM 850W 80 Plus Gold
Monitors: Philips 4K 40'' as main; AOC 23'' as second (for charts, EFB)
OS: Windows 10 64 BIT
Flight Simulator and addons:
P3D v4, PMDG 747/777, ORBX sceneries; AS16+ASCA; Chaseplane; Aivlasoft EFB; ACARS software
P3D settings:

http://imgur.com/a/D1RGy
http://imgur.com/a/V1GcW
http://imgur.com/a/CMz0l
http://imgur.com/a/Et1oC
Other settings:
Nvidia Control Panel - monitor refresh rate changed from native 60Hz to 30Hz
P3D.cfg - one tweak: TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=10
CPU/GPU utilisation during flight:
CPU utilisation: http://imgur.com/a/puiGz However CPU #3-7 tend to fluctuates from 20%-80% for 5-10 seconds, then all 3-7 cores stay at 100% for 2-3 seconds and then start to fluctuate again
GPU: http://imgur.com/a/ClXco
What have I tried to get rid of stutters:
Delete shaders/CFG file - no result
I tried to change monitor refresh rate (from 30 to 60 Hz, etc) tried to use vsync on/off - no result
I thought that it may be FSUIPC/simconnect issue - so I disabled FSUIPC, autosave, didn't use EFB aivlasoft, ACARS software - no result
Tried to lower my settings, especially: AA from 4SSA to 8xMSAA; texture resolution from 4096 to 2048; tried to disable shadows/dynamic reflections - no result
I suppose that there is problem "outside the sim" because I am getting stutters after 4-5 hours of flight. However I didn't find in task manager any processes which seems to be strange... or maybe I haven't noticed?
As you can see, I wanted to include as much info as possible, because this is very annoying. I really consider to reinstall my OS...
I will be grateful for any tips
Best,
Arek

Hello Arek
Before you take any action like this, Can you go through the General debugging steps below one by one to see if this helps your situation

Re: P3D v4 stutters after ~3-4 hours of flight
I have this exact same problem.
Re: P3D v4 stutters after ~3-4 hours of flight
Hey I'm having this problem too. I started a thread on it before I noticed yours.
Re: P3D v4 stutters after ~3-4 hours of flight
I'm having the same issues here.
I didn't notice this on flights from DXB to LHR or from LHR to SFO and DFW.
But flights from SFO to SYD and return I started getting these stutters somewhere over the Pacific.

Re: P3D v4 stutters after ~3-4 hours of flight
I have the same issue with long hauls in PMDG aircraft. As would be expected, if I save the scenario, close P3D, then restart and load the saved flight, the stutters are gone. This happens consistently on all long haul flights. I'm back to saving a flight before T/D, then reloading for a smooth arrival and landing. I'm confident the community will get this sorted in due time.
Edit: Windows 10 Pro is updated to the latest release and all drivers are updated, including NVIDIA (382.53). Addons include Orbx FTX Global Base Pack, FTX Global openLC Europe, FTX Global openLC North America, Orbx NA Northern California, Orbx NA Pacific Northwest, All FlightBeam Airports, most FSDreamTeam Airports, Few FlyTampa Airports, FSUIPC v5x (autosave disabled), ChasePlane v0.3.11, and ASP4 (Open Beta #3). Aircraft installed are A2A C182, PMDG B744/B777. I have zero tweaks to P3D .cfg files and do not use NVIDIA Inspector. P3Dv4 Settings are medium to medium-high.

Re: P3D v4 stutters after ~3-4 hours of flight
Do you guys have setting - "High resolution terrain textures" - Checked (On) ?
I've noticed my performance overall is VERY MUCH smoother with it unchecked and I have not noticed any obvious visual degradation by having it off.
I don't know if this was contributing to this issue we have as I have not done a long haul since turning it off.
I'll give it a go this coming week.

More users having the same problems here:

I can't confirm it was a problem that started after the hotfix, but I didn't notice this before.

What weather generator are you using?
Re: P3D v4 stutters after ~3-4 hours of flight
Can only speak for myself, but I'm running ActiveSky for P3Dv4
Re: P3D v4 stutters after ~3-4 hours of flight
Use Task manager in windows, Resource monitor, check AS 16 and see what your CPU% for AS 16 is when you start getting stutters. It should be around 1%. If you see it rising as you fly, that may be your problem. I have two Copters where it goes as high as 15% or more after as little as 30 minutes if flying, causing stutters. To stop stutters, close down AS 16 and restart it , and see what happens. If the stutters disappear when you do that, the problem is caused by AS 16. BTW I am using P3D V 3.4 but I imagine this could also be happening in V4.
Re: P3D v4 stutters after ~3-4 hours of flight
I tried closing and restarting AS yesterday, but it did not have the curing effect. By now I have only managed to cure it with restarting the sim. I have read that if you turn off high res terrain and restart the sim it reduces stutters. Apparently without any visual effects.
Re: P3D v4 stutters after ~3-4 hours of flight
Just tried another long haul and I can confirm the stutter still occurs after a few hours.
It is quite rhythmical like a heartbeat - a stutter once per second approx.
The Chaseplane camera also stutters in the same way if you move around the VC.
I tried restarting Active Sky and ChasePlane but it made no difference.
The only cure is to quit and restart the sim and load the flight where you left off and continue.

Hi,
Did you perhaps installed Navigraph's new beta Web or Desktop Charts that includes simlink?
If you did see this link, you might need to register and login to this forum to see the topic:

Yes I do! I have uninstalled it now. Will do a long haul soon to see if that was it.jannier wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2017 11:06 am Hi,
