[RESOLVED] P3D v4 crash on Scenery Library

Post by Ifikratis »

Hi all,

I'm getting a crash when I have opened the Scenery Library and click "Ok" to close it. The Event Viewer shows this:

Faulting application name: Prepar3D.exe, version: 4.0.23.21468, time stamp: 0x59279be2
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000

Faulting process id: 0x2b88
Faulting application start time: 0x01d2dc110204b641
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\Prepar3D.exe
Faulting module path: unknown
Report Id: 6ab4157a-902a-4a6a-b9ad-44bee8e94961
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:

If I click "Cancel" instead, there is no crash. I am running Windows 10.

Has anybody experienced this? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Best regards,

Do you have any addons installed? Have you tried clearing out your generated files? Info on how to do that is in the
Gemeral Debugging Steps: http://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic ... 2&t=123246

Thanks

I will add that I have also had scenery library crash issues when adding a scenery manually. Not every time, but it has happened frequently. After adding the scenery and pressing the button to proceed, P3Dv4 crashes without an error message. But what is interesting is when I restart the simulation, the scenery has been added just fine to the library and functions properly. I'll admit I have not followed the debugging steps because I don't really want to start all over when it's working, but the fact it happens frequently leads me to believe something is amiss. FYI. Maybe something to at least put on the list to look at.

Dear Hollis,

Thank you very much for the reply. I have installed only my v4 compatible add ons. These are:

ORBX GLobal, LC, Regions, Trees
FSDT aiports
Flightbeam aiports
FSDT GSX
Hifi AS16, ASCA

As user 'regulate' said, after the crash, when I start again P3D, the changes I made to the Scenery Library are saved besides the fact that it crashed when I clicked "Ok". So, it seems the crash comes after the sim tries to load again the scenario I suppose and not when saving.

If I clear the generated files I suppose that means uninstalling my currently installed add-ons..I'll do that if no other solution is found and report back.

It would be easier for me if you could point to a specific file that I can delete and so backup in case it was not the problem.

Ok, I found something:

I used the new "Add-ons" menu to disable all add-ons. I restarted P3D, and the problem was gone. The sim was loading again fine after clicking "Ok" and no crash happened.

So, now we know the problem is created by one of the add-ons.

I enabled one add-on at a time, every time restarting P3D and then testing again. I only enabled/disabled add-on airports from the P3D Add-ons menu, not the scenery library.

I came to the following conclusions when I click "Ok" on the Scenery Library:

1) If I enable from 1 to 7 airports, P3D will not crash when I click "Ok". It will not crash even if I open the Scenery Library for a second time and click "Ok" again.

1) If I enable more than 7 airports but less than 13, P3D will not crash when I click "Ok" the first time, but it will crash if I do open Scenery Library a second time and click "Ok".

2) If I enable 13 or 14 airports, when I click "Ok" the loading takes forever. "Stucks" at 16% and goes up 1% every one minute or so. Obviously something is not right there.

3) If I enable, 15 airports, P3D will crash when I click "Ok" on the Scenery Library the fist time.

4) It seems it has not have to do with which airports are activated but rather with the amount of airports.

I spent a lot of time verifying these numbers, so there should be accurate.
My system is clean after a Win10 format. I have no antivirus and Prepar3D and all add-ons are installed on their default directories.

Any help would be appreciated. Would also like to know If you think I should attend to FSDT or Flightbeam or it is not add-on specific.
Being 64bits, I am not planning of switching add-ons on and off but I discovered this problem when I tried to add a mesh scenery entry.

I Just made a new thread on this since I didn't see this one first. I'm getting the same issue. I did a reinstall and I still had it. I think it's one of the FSDT or Flightbeam airports causing it because on the initial run of P3D it added back in the airports automatically so it has to be one of those.

Thank you guys for reporting too. I suppose so it should be a bug.

sfgiants13, according to my testing it is the number of airports that causes the crash. If less than 7 airports are activated, I have no crash. I hope LM will look into it and let us know.

I was having the same. I would get it after adding something to the scenery library a second time.

Re: P3D v4 crash on Scenery Library

I also have CTD events everytime the OK is clicked on the Scenery Library UI. If I cancel there is no problem. The events are all similiar stackhash events, just the stack hash and no faulting module. I have many Orbx products installed using their v4 compatible installers. All airports such as FDST, Flightbeam and FlyTampa are all installed per SDK using add-on.xml files.

Any update on this? At least acknowledge that LM is looking into it?

The problem seems to be due to using add-on.xml files to add scenery. When I have FSDT sceneries added to me scenery.cfg using the supplied updater then I cannot add or amend the scenery library in any way from within the sim. After rebuilding the data base it crashes every time. However, if I add the FSDT sceneries manually I can then make any other amendments that I want and the sim restarts without a problem. I can even add over 40 entries in one go and every thing runs smoothly. The problem therefore appears to be the entries in the scnery.cfg from the add-on.xml files.
