Another controller problem : MSFF2 & erratic throttle movement

Post by russdirks »

Since installing P3D v3, I am experiencing problems with my MSFF2 joystick. When I move my hand on or off the joystick, about 50% of the time, the throttle in the Virtual Cockpit will jump erratically.

[In case you don't know, the MSFF2 has a sensor to detect the presence of your hand. When you remove your hand, the forces are disabled. The controller still sends normal input to the sim, though.]

The problem manifests the most when I hold the joystick in it's neutral position. I am not running any add-ons, and I have re-calibrated the joystick, but the situation has not improved.

Hopefully a hotfix for this can be released fairly quickly.

I also use an old but very good MS FF2 Joystick, and have exactly the same issue.
There are many of us out there still using that great joystick, please fix the issue, which was not there on P3Dv2 I also own.

I suspect the issue could be conncted with Force Feedback option not more being available on v3 menu, while it was there in v2

Hi
I have not moved up to V3 yet but do use the MSFF2. I have never liked the switching off when you release the stick so I have always had the sensor at the top of the handgrip section covered with black plastic tape. Give it and see if it helps.

I wont update to v3.0 until this been fixed.
I fly with MSFF2 and Ralair Lancair the 90% of time. I don't want to use other Joystick. I have two MSFF2.
Please fix this!

Thanks.

The MS FF2 joystick worked perfectly on Prepar3D V2

There should be any change from V2 to V3 that is causing the issue. I hope this can be fixed soon, because for all other aspects the V3 is a GREAT release and I am very satisfied with its purchase

Hello,

Could you go into more detail as to how the throttle is behaving? For example:

1. Does the throttle jump to another position and then remain there?

2. Does the throttle constantly change position when not touching the device?

3. Does the throttle respond correctly when manually repositioned?

Thanks!

Thanks Clifton,

the throttle jumps down to idle for a fraction of a second, then jumps back up to its previous position.
This down-up-down-up jumping cycle repeats erratically many times, so the engine rpm go down making difficult performing maneuvers or even taking off.

If the sensor hole is closed with black adhesive tape the issue disappears.

But if the plugin FSForce2 by Mr. Russell Dirks (the topic starter) is active, the issue presents even with the sensor hole tapped

Ther same here. But I use the trottle slider for prop setting. It moves up and down erratically.

1. No, for me it generally jumps to a mid-point (generally the same each time) and then immediately jumps back to the "set" position.

2. It seems to only jump when I move my hand on or off the throttle.

3. Yes.

In my case I've noticed that when the throttle it set it idle, and then my hand taken off the stick the in sim throttle jumps up to about 50% (or even 100%) until I "reset" it by moving the physical throttle again. I've noticed this many times after parking up at a gate and then removing my hand to use the mouse to turn engines off and while I've been doing that and panning around the VC the the throttles have already started spooling up because of this bug.

Hello,

Thanks for the in-depth descriptions. I believe I have isolated what is causing this issue. The fix will be available with the next release.

Any idea when the next release will be, Clifton? Is this issue that you have isolated also connected to (for example) my own controller problems with the CH Flightstick Pro USB?
