Texture flickering avatar first person view

Post by bekesdd »

Trying to investigate a texture flickering issue happening on most scenery objects, buildings and autogen found that using the avatar mode first person view causes the flickering to occur which goes away on selecting for eg virtual cockpit view and comes back again on selecting first person view. Looks like p3d might be having difficulty determining LOD for scenery objects while in avatar first person view.

This is due to the near clip settings for the camera used in first person mode. We manually set the NearClipOverride value in the avatar's sim.cfg to prevent the avatar's body from rendering in the camera. There are trade-offs with this including less precision for far away objects. This value, along with other values in this configuration file, can be changed if desired.
