I see reports of C++ Visual Studio being broken after this update.

Same here. Spent many hours trying to isolate it and disabled all add ons. Stock aircraft seem to work. I started getting CTD'S after this one. What seems to have resolved it is updating FSUIPC which seems to have been specifically a modified for compatibility with this version. May not help you but worth a mention.
