I did not realize that to install the P3Dv4.4 update first required Microsoft.Net Framework 4.7.2 to be installed first.
I believe in future updates if there are first other required Microsoft or other updates that must be installed first, that that information should be clearly communicated to the P3D user.
Prior to knowing this, I uninstalled the Client and tried to install the P3Dv4.4 update. It failed with the message indicating that I need Microsoft.Net Framework 4.7.2 installed first. Luckily I was able to reinstall P3Dv4.3 so that I could at least fly until I found a fix. But what if I could not? I would have been very upset!
My install of Microsoft.Net Framework 4.7.2 also failed, and I have been trying since the P3Dv4.4 update was released to no avail, until today.
I tried many google searches and fixes, here is what worked for me. I found this from another troubled installer.
Go to: C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\S-1-5-18
Rename the folder S-1-5-18 to S-1-5-18_old.
No harm will come from doing this as the folder will be recreated automatically when you install Microsoft.Net Framework 4.7.2.
Now try to install Microsoft.Net Framework 4.7.2 again - - hopefully with success.
This worked for me and I can now install the P3Dv4.4 update. Hope it works for you too!
Any issues, problems or troubleshooting topics related to installing the Prepar3D client application or it's installer.
