[RESOLVED] P3D stuck at very low FPS.

Postby AlistairMcKay » Thu Apr 09, 2020 3:11 pm

Hi, I was away from my PC for a few days and when I returned to load into P3D, I noticed I could no longer achieve over about 10fps, even in a default setting with all sliders turned down to the left. Before I was getting a comfortable 30/40+ FPS with addon scenery, aircraft, weather and textures etc.

My PC has a i9-9900k, GTX1080Ti and 32GB of RAM, with P3D installed on its own 1TB M.2 SSD. I have tried deleting my P3D.cfg, addons.xml, reinstalling graphics drivers and eventually I did a full reinstall of P3D removing all addons but still I cannot achieve over 10.5fps (This is with the default fighter jet at default airport). Sometimes it goes as low as 2 or 3FPS.

One thing to note is my CPU and GPU usage is always very low, about no more than 20%, whereas this would usually be 80% or higher. However, when I pause the simulator, my usages go up to around 80/90% and my fps will return to around 90/100FPS. As soon as I unpause, its back to 10 and below.

It's also worth noting, I still achieve regular good FPS in other games and simulators, I tested both XP11 and Battlefield and had no issues with either of them, so I felt I could rule out hardware failure/issues.

Any ideas as to how I can fix this, I have tried everything I can think of short of reinstalling Windows and completely wiping the SSD, which I would rather avoid.

Thanks.

Which P3D version e.g., P3D4.x.xxx ?

Are you using AI freeware or payware?

Is you default the LM F22 at KVPS?

Nope, didn't have any AI in sim beforehand but I now have no addons at all installed in the sim.

If you reboot your PC.
No Add-ons running
Start P3D
scenario screen
Options, set FPS to 25
and let it load the default flight LM F22 at KVPS
Windowed mode
What is your FPS?

Done that, getting at most 11.7fps inside the cockpit and 7.2 outside the aircraft.

Not good.

My next thoughts:

Try a P3D repair, test again

Move your Prepar3D.cfg file to the desktop (or another temp backup location and test again

You could run through all the General Debugging Steps :

Currently trying a repair now. Totally puzzled because I changed literally nothing, my PC was just turned off for 3 or 4 days.

Did you build your own PC or did you purchase a name brand PC from a store?

Probably not now as they work for NHS so came at a bad time haha.

Was kind of hoping it wasn't a hardware issue as most other games seem to run no issue :(.
