View Group Managment - FSUIPC

Postby Pete Dowson » Thu May 09, 2019 12:51 pm

The above thread (without the "NOT") has been closed as "RESOLVED". The resolution appears to be:
I got a tip to look at FSUIPC. And after deactivating the autosave function in FSUIPC the problem isn't there anymore.

Now this still points to a problem in P3D. All the FSUIPC AutoSave does is generate a filename and call the SimConnect function to Save a flight. It is actually identical to the user pressing the ; key to save a flight and entering his own name when prompted. The difference is only that it saves the bother of entering the name, and saves automatically at regular specified intervals.

Of course, saving a flight is often also detected by add-on aircraft code and used to trigger them to save aircraft configurations too. So it could be an aircraft add-on rather than P3D specifically. It still needs investigating though, rather than wrongly blamed on FSUIPC and thread closed!

I don't blame FSUIPC. I think it's a great program, but I only want to inform P3Dv4 users how to solve my problem. And I agree, that the designers of P3D must give this case attention.

That's why it shouldn't have been closed. I think it was L-M who blamed FSUIPC, not you!

Since I use view-groups I tried this on my default flight (Beech Baron 58 EGBB to EGCC), and confirmed the behaviour of the sim with Autosave (default) switched on, though in my case the primary (centre monitor) flickers briefly as well.

With view-groups switched off and Autosave on, no problem. Seems to point to some interaction between the view-groups display process and the P3D "Save" function!

The question is , is LM going to give this problem attention ? I don't hear any reaction of them.

Hello,

Thanks for the report. View group windows closing during a save is by design. The reason this is done is because all view information for views within a view group is saved in an xml file. When a scenario is saved all open views save out their position and size into the scenario file. View group windows are closed to prevent this from happening because this would cause duplicate views to load on top of each other. That being said, we can look into ways of improving this behavior in a future update.

Hi Rob,
View group windows closing during a save is by design. The reason this is done is because all view information for views within a view group is saved in an xml file.

Well, PMDG's and other sophisticated aircraft add-ons which implement a lot of their own subsystems freeze the sim whilst collecting data for their saved files. They don't have to close any open panel views to do that. It just causes a hesitation (a pause for some folks) then things continue as normal. Seems rather drastic to actually close the views.
we can look into ways of improving this behavior in a future update.

Yes, please. And thanks!
