Re: Diagnosing a scenery hang/freeze?

I have over 120 addon sceneries not including most of Orbx products, and I've never installed one that replaced default apx..bgl files. The Scenery\World\Scenery location is not unusual and is the place to place pre-load stubs used to adjust the elevation of the airport flatten polygons. Maybe the p...

Re: Uninstalling and reinstalling P3D v3 and SimConnect

Hi Ray, it is not unusual for a program to crash if the faulting object is not 'protected code,' which means that it is not code designed to run within the standard API's such as .Net or a common language runtime environment. The problem reports are triggered by internal exception calls to an error ...

Re: Reinstall to P3Dv4

There is no need to use symbolic links to move scenery to a different drive. All add-ons except those required to be in the P3D directory structure, and there are very few of those, can be installed about anyplace on your PC. The the addon section in the Learning Center.

Re: TM Warthog Throttle Issues

I've been using the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS throttle and joystick controllers with P3D for a long time without problems. It doesn't sound like you have calibrated your controllers. You need to 1) Assign the controller to axis in the P3D controls UI and then 2) Calibrate the controller axis by cli...

Re: P3dv4.5 very unstable (keeps crashing)

Herman, LM has pinned recommended troubleshooting procedures in this forum. Have you tried troubleshooting? It might help to describe the crash event, for example is there a message from windows or does it just close without warning? Look at the application fault logs and maybe those will provide an...

Re: Monitor

You don't need a gaming monitor for flight simulator. Unlike shooter games, the typical frame refresh rate is 20-40 fps and there are no fast shinny objects flying across the screen and exploding. I have a 4K TV (Samsung) and I love it. It's big and only 18 in from my nose so I get a real sense of i...

Re: Scenery Ground Texture Issue

The author of the scenery commented: I hope it will work correctly. But only install it by your own risk! No warranty! Designed with ADE 1.37 and SBuilderX 3.10 McMurdo Ice Station Scenery. I see the secenry files date is 12.28.08. The scenery’s Rating is 1 star of 5 with only one user commenting. ...

Re: Unable to open scenery cfg / Can Not run w/o a valid scenery cfg

You have to use a text editor that can edit UTC-16 unicode. The default Notepad that comes with Windows cannot and there are no settings in your pc that can change this. This is why I mentioned two possible solutions.

Re: FSX to P3D on my specs?

He's at the minimum requirements, well short of the recommended. OP, your hardware will really struggle if adding anything meaningful with regard to addons.
He has a quad core 4 GHz CPU.... how is that short of recommended?

Re: FSX to P3D on my specs?

You should first look here at the LM published minimum system requirements: http://www.prepar3d.com/system-requirements/

It appears that you meet the recommended system requirements. I would not try to use the high resolution texture settings with that video card.

Re: Unable to open scenery cfg / Can Not run w/o a valid scenery cfg

Perhaps you opened and saved the scenery.cfg file with a simplified text editor such as notepad, and this reverted the text encoding to windows default or UTF-8. This file needs to be UTF-16 (little endian). Hope this helps. There is Notepad++ freeware that handles the different word sizes. I prefer...

Re: SSD drive, how much space required?

Storage is cheap... get what you can afford. I have P3D installed on my system drive and it takes 50GB with some addons but no addon scenery and there are also P3D related files in the appdata and programdata folders. All of my addon scenery is on a second SSD and currently those are running around ...

Re: Backup Disks ?

You still burn disks? I mean, I have a blueray disk burner but rarely use it. Read the instructions Vaughan pointed out, there is an option to download components where each downloaded file is much much smaller than the whole. You can install one big file or three components and two of three will ha...

Re: Problem updating Content, Cont2.cab invalid digital signature

Until,... I copied the three files to a different folder (Desktop) that did not have the original content files in it and I renamed the files to remove the (1) from them and tried again. This time the installation worked fine. Perhaps a very basic mistake on my part but I’m still learning about com...
