Post Strange behaviour with new sound feature
on: April 12, 2012, 13:09

I appreciate very much the new feature of simulator sounds being active even when the window is not in focus, i.e. browsing internet while flying at cruise level, watching charts or something.

The strange issue is that the sound is always active only when airborne, but when on ground and during ground checks and procedures the behaviour is the same as in FSX/FS9, namely it is muted when switching active window.
I don't know exactly if the change happens after engines are started or after airborne, not sure of that, but I will try to be more precise.
Has anybody noted this issue?

Regards,
Stefano

Odd. Has anyone else seen this? We tweaked the creation parameters for the direct sound buffers to make them global, so I'm not sure why the ground check would alter the behavior.

Thanks for answer.
I paid more attention to the issue and I noticed that the problem is only with non-engine sound and in some aircrafts.

For example, with P3D window not in focus, I cannot hear the noise of APU starting in NGX or the buzz after you put battery on in iFly 737,
but I can hear the noise of starting engines in both aircrafts.
With default aicrafts or other pay (Carenado C90) everything seems ok.
So could the problem be related to how different group of sounds are managed in some aircrafts?

If i remember correctly the iFly 737 uses a custom sound set up which does not follow the normal fsx/esp sdk sound config which is why you cant use third part sound packs with that aircraft ( just an example of what you cant do with the aircraft in fsx ) , it will break the sound. I can only only assume the NGX is the same due to the complexity of the aircraft and sound set up.

As iFly support P3D it might be worth asking over there as well as it could be a possible bad call with their custom sound dll in P3D ( but not fsx ).

I agree this is a reasonable explanation.
Since I actually use P3D version of iFly I will report the issue on their forum, while I guess there's not use in doing the same for PMDG.
To be honest, this is not a particularly annoying bug.

What i did notice is that after loading the default installed flight and then changing aircraft, Ii still hear the sound of the first aircraft. Anyone else?
