Jake, are you using any of the bloom mods at all? I have had many crashes previously and decided to reinstall windows and a fresh copy of Prepar3d. What I am doing is installing one addon at a time and waiting (even if it takes a couple of weeks for each). I think that some of these bloom mods do not play nice with the graphic engine in either FSX ot Prepar3d. I have installed and so far have had no issues with crashes (touch wood). I'm still monitoring it though.

Hi Jake,

Can you list all add-ons that you are using? As Kelvin indicates there are add-ons that modify shaders that will blow up Prepar3D. We have updated the shader model from 2.0 to 3.0 in Prepar3D and third-party mods to shaders can be problematic. I haven't been able to replicate your issue, but I do not have Orbx AU or the Duke..... I try to maintain a relatively clean installation of Prepar3D to try to track down issues.

Hi guys,

No. I did use Shade in FSX but haven't even tried to get it working in P3D. I can't get ENB to work in FSX so again, haven't tried it.

List of addons in P3D:

FSDT P3D compatible airports: KLAX; KJFK; GSX and the SA Addon manager
ORBX Au SBSL
RealAir Beech Duke T ("installed" to P3d using F1 reg tool)
PMDG NGX (ported acros using edited xml.dll)
REX (not "installed" as such, I havbe merely pointed it to my P3D folders)

Also, this happened with no weather injection taking place. I have another error that happened after REX texture injection for which I'll open a new thread in the appropriate forum.

I am going to run a totally vanilla P3D for a few weeks to see if I can make it happen again. I'm changing my whole PC at the moment so will leave P3D alone when it goes on the new box.

From my experiences with FSX, this was like the old UIAutmationCore issues of right-clicking..It seemed to correlate with my mouse click back onto the radio unit..Possible a non-P3D compatible gauge or gauge texture or perhaps dll file in the Duke? (I know you can't/won't know this as you don't have it)

Thanks for the speedy replies, guys. Most impressed (with LM and P3D - keep it up!)

best

Could you try to reproduce it with a clean version of p3d and then add the Duke, Orbix, etc in one at a time and see if you can narrow down the cause of the crash.

Thanks,

Here is a post from Pete Dowson over at avsim on how he used FSUIPC to stop the g3d.dll crashes in fsx.

It may be helpful.

Sadly my gfx card died on me so testing for more g3d crashes is impossible at the moment until i get a new card.

Hi Gandy,
Thanks for that. I always update FSUIPC. Running 4.81 atm I think.
I'm not testing at present as I am still trying to get my new rig up and running..To be honest, I think it might have been the Beech; I've not had any other crashes with P3D. (I've doomed it now LOL)

I also got this yesterday about 40 minutes into a flight originating at NZMF heading east and it crashed near Glenorchy. This was using ORBX terrain and the aerosoft katana copied over from FSX. REX clouds were installed but no weather was being injected.

Basic specs:
i7 2600k @4.6ghz
8GB RAM
GTX 570

latest FSUIPC is installed.

sadly the fix that is in place in FSUIPC wont work in Prepar3d which means the only way for it to stop is for the G3D.dll to be looked at by LM as the G3D crashes could happen with high detail airport addons as well

If you get G3D crashes the best thing you can to do stop them is lower the settings a little, try not to use a level of detail radius higher than 5.5 and if you keep getting them lower to 4.5. If it still happens then lower the Global texture 1024 or 2048 if you are using 4096x4096.

I know Pete Dowson is away this weekend so maybe on Tuesday i will post on his support forum asking if there is anything he can do to help with regards to FSUIPC

Have had this twice in two days.. I ignored it the first time hoping it was just some fluke, then just happened today flying out of Orbx 3W5 and made it half way to KHQM before the sim G3D.dll crashed.

It was a common problem in FSX with ORBX scenery. Hopefully either Pete Dowson will sort it our, or else maybe LM will be able to work with him.

Or do it on their own, obviously :)

Hi,

Got a response from Pete Dowson:

No.

I'm not in favour of working around bugs in code which is being actively supported and developed, because then it may never be fixed, and it should be. I'd rather everyone who experiences these crashes submit the appropriate bug reports to LM.

If they want to know what my workaround patch did, I can by all means tell them what i checked, though it was pure luck that it worked with no evident adverse results.

Regards
Pete

Hopefully LM will provide a fix.

Thanks,

-stefan

Got a response from Pete Dowson:

And here's another one:

The crash at offset BA66D is identical to the one which FSUIPC patches around in FSX SP1 and ACC versions of G3D.DLL. I can easily make this patch work in P3D 1.3 as well -- but as explained above, I'd rather LM fixed the problem at source, as all my patch does is force the function to exit with a "false" result if the value about to be used would give an access violation. It was pure luck in FSX that this had no evident adverse affect. I assume that something wasn't drawn on that pass which otherwise would have been (apart from the crash).

If LM support agree, I will add the workaround to an interim update of FSUIPC4, but i would hope they would fix it in their next update in any case, and if they do I'd like direct confirmation so i can remove the work-around.

Regards
Pete Dowson

That's ashame but can perfectly understand his stance. I set P3D aside for now as I just can't risk dedicating time to a flight at the risk of it ending abruptly. Ashame but that's life..
