Post [RESOLVED] Default ACs cannot be moved resp. deleted
on: January 25, 2012, 14:27

Hi,
my intention was to clean up Airplanes directory, because there are a number of aircrafts, I will for sure, never fly. To do this, I took the aircrafts directories and moved it to an so called Backup directory. At the next start of P3D, I noticed that P3D is configuring anything. This unknown configuring process took approx. 10 minutes until P3D loaded again. Later, I detected that all removed aircraft have been restored by P3D itself, again. I would like to know, whether this behaviour is intended and why. I personally prefer to have only a few aircraft in the Airlines directory.
Thank you
Bruno

Do you have "backup" software installing that could be doing this? Prepar3d wouldn't do this automatically.

Hi Mike,
NO; definitely no Backup Software is active on my machine. As an example; I DELETED the default Piper_J3Cub completely, with its directory. After starting P3D again, a window opens, reading in its title "P3D" and below "Please wait while Windows configures P3D", and again below n "Gathering required information" . (I do not know, how to attach a picture). After several minutes (approx. 10) , P3D starts normally. Looking later into the Airplanes directory; tataaahh; Piper_J3Cub is back again.

off the top of my head it looks like its running setup again - have you tried doing the delete then clicking the Prepar3D.exe in the P3D dirctory?

After deleting any of the default AC's; P3D seems indeed to run a kind of setup again. I don't try anything again, because, I encoutered besides the long lasting, "new setup", an additional, real problem too. I do not know, whether it is linked to removal of default AC', or not, but I have twice removed AC's and have lost TWICE "all Autogen buildings" in scenery; though the slider is completely to the right. Only a new installation of P3D brought Autogen buildings back.
To be honest, I was hopping to get any advise from developers on my question referring to default AC's.

Suit yourself, just trying to help. For your information its seems to be only you that has the problem which is why I tried. It is after all basically FSX and the developer above couldn't help. Whatever, neither I or those I know with P3D have any such problem, with default or add-on aircraft. . .

Please don't misunderstand me. My very last statement was indeed very misunderstnading. I need to say that, english is not my native language. To ask again clearly. Have you actually deleted i.e removed completey, any of the P3D default aircraft ? When starting P3D the next time; did it start immediately as usual ? Did the before deleted aircraft definitely not appear again ?
Thank you for your patience.

Ok, understood. The answer is Yes, removed Piper Cub for example, from the simobjects/airplanes folder. P3D started again as usual, normally, without the Cub. It takes about a minute and I have a lot of extra scenery loaded Also after re-boot. The aircraft just was not there, ether in the select menu or in the Simobjects/Airplanes folder. If it is re-installing aircraft, i can only think it must be the wrong .exe you are using, which is why I asked if you had tried going to the Prepar3D.exe in the Prepar3D folder i.e not using what may be a wrong shortcut . . I assume you are using the installer and P3D with administrator rights?

Hi Michael,
thank you very much again. I understand, the automatic restore of deleted AC's, is indeed related to the installation of P3D on my machine and nothing else. I will take your advises and check it.

If you delete the shortcut, and make a new one does this help?

YESSS; thank you very much; this was the solution ! I deleted the original shorcut and created a new one, linked to Prepar3D.exe, and I can now remove default aircraft, without invoking the "automatic restore" function. I need to say, the issue was not vital, but a bit irritating.
Thank you again
