Post [ANSWERED] ATC annoyance

Hi. I've just started testing Prepar3D after your generous PC Pilot offer.

I'm having trobule using ATC. Each time I close ATC ,Prepar3D goes out of full screen mode and my start menu pops up.

Also, the lack of transparency in the ATC module makes it difficult to use during takeoff and landing since it blocks your view completely. Is tere a way to edit this?

The context switching bug has been fixed and will be out in the next release. Transparency is disabled because it will cut your framerate in half if you aren't running win7 using the aero UI which does window composting on the GPU. Perhaps at some point we can query the OS to check for this and allow transparency, but for now it is disabled to be on the safe side.

Has this issue been addressed/resolved? I just installed P3D (v 1.2), and have the exact same problem with the ATC window!

BTW, outstanding job on this sim! I have been a long time MSFS user, and am going to swich to P3D because of direction "Flight" has taken!

The release with this fix is yet to be scheduled. 1.2 is the current version, the next update will be announced soon.

Hi. I just got 1.3 Academic a couple of days ago.

I have similar problems here with the ATC window. When I open the window my screen goes black for second until the atc window appears, then it does the same when I close the atc window.

Also in FSX I usually move the atc window and resize it, if I do that in P3D the next time I open it its reverted back to its original size and position.

Hey Beans -

We'll look into the ATC resize and window placement not saving. Thanks for bringing this forward!

Staying on the theme of ATC and regardless of the problems found in previous posts, I would like to point out that the ATC window does not open automatically in flight. Obviously, the function has already been activated from its menu, but the problem persists.
thanks

Hi there,

Not complaining but rather confirming that the ATC window when requested will "jump" the full screen display out to a black screen for a second or so and then appear with the simulation. The same occurs when closing it.

This with a a combination of no transparency or easy ability to manipulate the size of the window or text size makes it pretty unusable at the moment given the amount of contact you will make with ATC during and IFR flight.

Thanks very much, v1.3 seems very good indeed, looking forward to the future - it seems bright guys!

Kind regards,

James Gillies

Hi there,

Could I please ask for one further update on this issue of the ATC window causing havoc with your experience being addressed in the near future? At present it's not even worth trying to use the ATC on an IFR flight due to the near-constant distraction you get with the window appearing and disappearing... Which then makes for a very "quiet" and soulless flight.

Apart from going online (which I am not too bothered about at this stage) does anyone have any other recommendations for ATC coverage?

Thanks a lot.

James

I notice the ATC window in the latest release is still opaque. Is there some way we could get an option on this? I know the issue was framerates and window 7 related (as per the response to the first post in the chain), but most of us would like the option. If transparency eats up too many frames, then we can always default back to the current ATC. How about it? It really is the one thing that is keeping me from migrating over (well, permanently migrating over) because it makes for a terrible IFR flight.

Radar Contact 4 is very good and works well with P3D

*Bump*
RE: ATC-Window Context-Switching Bug

Can you please provide an update on if this issue has been addressed? I see above (January 5th), bhollis stated it was already fixed in the development branch and would be in the next(1.3) release. I'm running v.1.4 now and also experiencing this bug. Could you please check if bug-fix was errantly removed from the code repository at some point?

Just to recap symptoms: When opening ATC, or the Kneelboard, etc. The screen goes black, then i see the left-over "Loading Scenes 100%" dialog box from mission-load time and after a few seconds the simulator comes back. At that point it takes another 3-5 seconds to finish re-rendering the screen. Total interruption 5-10 seconds approx.

Thanks!

Hi Steven,

http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=1793
Here in this Thread You can find a workaround for the problem.

It works really fine.

Of course, it's not the solution you want to see, but until it's solved, the problem is gone :)
