Post Will the Reality XP GPS product(s) work in P3D?

Hi everyone. I'd like to incorporate the Reality XP GNS430W (http://www.reality-xp.com/flightsim/gns430/) into a flight model being developed for P3D. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, what's involved?

Thanks so much.

Chris

Hi Chris,

Yes it does. In fact we use it on one of our projects! I don't think that there is any work specifically to do to get it going apart from installation in the normal way.

Regards,
John

Actually, the correct answer to that question is more of a Partially and No.
Partially, it does work with Prepar3d V1.0 with limitations. If you are using a simple setup for you may be fine. We are using a custom glass cockpit designed by http://www.flight1tech.com/ and the data sent to display on the gauge is incomplete. The problem is that RXP does not dynamically update to Prepar3d and all the information needed does not show up. Being that when you build a flight plan using RXP, the flight plan is not automatically pushed to Prepar3d. There are a few additional steps that must be used to upload the flight plan to Prepar3d and isn't that difficult to do but in a training environment it distracts what the student needs to be concentrating on. Using a basic .xml based 430 works just fine but it does not have all the functionality as does the RXP-430.
No, it does not work with the recent release of Prepar3d v1.1. The GNS 430 loads and runs in v1.1 but WILL NOT give any inputs to fly on autopilot.

One other note is that the personal version of the RXP-430 will not work with Prepar3d (any version) You must purchase the commercial version.

That's it in a nutshell. I have been working with Jean-Luc from Reality-XP and hopefully all the problems will be resolved soon.

Hope that helps,
Steve

I have been attempting to incorporate the RealityXP GNS530W into Prepar3d V1.1 with no luck. The primary problem I am having right now is that everytime I place the necessary .dll files into the gauges folder Prepar3d won't even load the plane with the RXP GNS530W installed, however without the .dll files the GNS530W doesn't appear at all. Does anyone know of a way to make this work?

Thanks

Michael

Michael,
If you are trying to install the FSX version RXP that you can buy from the Reality-XP web site, it will not work. And currently the commercial version of Reality-XP GNS IS NOT capable of running on Prepar3d v1.1. Yes you can install it and get it running however it does not do anything. When you put in a flight plan using the GNS and select autopilot, you aircraft will more than likely take a 360 heading and keep on going. Unless someone out there has figured out how to get it running on Prepar3d v1.1, then RXP is a dead product until the RXP team gets to work on fixing it.

Hope that helps,
Steve

I have been trying to get hold of Reality XP to see if there are any issues at our end that we can address. No luck so far. I will keep trying. Perhaps someone in the community has better access to Jean-Luc?

I have his email, but no response. I actually think that the problem might be related to the fs9gps.cab file that wasn't shipped with 1.1 as we updated it to the new SIDS/STARS gps. Beau is going to include it back in the next release, but it can be copied over from a 1.0 installation. I will look at uploading it into the downloads section for now, but before then, I will see if I have a copy of the RealityXP gps and test it out.

OK, apparently it isn't the fs9gps.cab file. Still investigating.

Update. Reality XP are working on the problems and are hoping to get a release out soon. They know where the issues are and are trying to resolve them.

Hi everyone and thanks for the input. John, any word on the update from RXP? I checked out their website but there's no mention whatsoever. Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris,

I just checked. Apparently there is a new version 1.5 that resolves a lot of the compatibility issues. If you have purchased it, this update is available through the normal software update channels. You will need to contact Reality XP if you don't have it yet. I also don't see any mention on their website, so hopefully they will change that soon. Hope this helps.

Hi John. Thanks for the update. I had so much trouble getting in touch with Reality XP we decided to build our own GNS430. Such a shame as it is probably a lot of wasted / duplicated development time but I had no choice. Our 430 will be slightly limited compared with RXP but will do all the things we need. A key consideration (which I don't think works well with RXP) is the link between the GPS and the EHSI. Any updates you have will still, however, be greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Chris

Hi guys,
I'm sorry to open and old post, but I've just come on board with P3d and would love to get my Reality GNS WAAS and Wx gauges working with P3d.
John, I already have it installed to my system and working in FSX. I have copied over a plane that has the gauge incorporated into its panel (realAir Beech Duke Turbine) and also copied the relevant dll files into the correct gauges folder within P3d, but the gauge comes up static. It does not let me click any of its' buttons. Am I missing something? I did not install the plane into P3d using its installer, I simply copied it over into the simobjects\airplanes folder.

I am worried that, if I "reinstall" RealityXP into P3d, it will stop my FSX version working!

Again, sorry to hijack an old post. I will have a few more questions in the relevant forums in good time. In the meantime, can I congratulate all at LM for P3d and all it can be,

best

jake
