Post Level of detail radius
on: August 25, 2012, 20:59

I have installed VFR Photographic Scenery Generation X V3, Volume 1, Southern England and Wales, but I can only see a small radius of photo realistic scenery. If I climb to 3,000ft with an IAS of 40 kts, I can not see any photo textures as my view is outside the radius.If I descend, I can see the textures.I have set my level of detail radius to 6.5.

When you set up your p3d scenery config you did remember to set up the library locations correctly i assume

Here is an example of mine.

[Area.142]
Title=VFR GenX Vol2 Area1 2.4m Night Scenery v2.0
Local=D:\Horizon Simulation\VFR-Gen-X-2.0\Volume2\Area1\2.4m Night
Layer=142
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

The Area Number and the Layer number must match each other and you cant use numbers that other scenery entries are using, There will be a lot to check as you should have a lot of entries for your scenery.

Thanks Gandy.

I dont seem to have any entries in my scenery config for VFR scenery in Prepar3D or FSX, but I have a large LOD radius in FSX and P3D seems to be limited.

Would there be another scenery config? I have looked at the scenery config within the Users roaming folder and the application folder.

The p3d scenery config can be found in C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D.

The fsx can be found in program data folder as well.

These are the active folders for the scenery.cfg so before you play with them i recommend you make a backup just encase something goes wrong.

I have added scenery to FSX and P3D, and they are working fine, but no Area lines are showing up beyond the default Area's on either FSX or P3D.

I did try running FSX to P3D Migration Tool by Flightsim Estonia, but got an error message. I dont know if this is preventing the scenery areas from being added?

I have now uninstalled P3D and reinstalled it again and the VFR Photographic and UK2000 scenery is working very well and I have a very good level of detail radius, but still no Area entries within the Scenery.cfg file.

you have to manually add them to the p3d scenery.cfg and set up the area and layer entries manually. Make sure you add the to the scenery.cfg in program data folder.
