Post Repair Install "Not Responding"
on: July 9, 2012, 01:01

Hello folks,
After tidying up my pc (CC Cleaner using all functions including Register Cleaning which has not caused a problem in two years of us) - I'm having a major issue with P3D.
I started P3D and it started loading, then in the taskbar it showed the P3D icon but said Microsoft Flight Simulator, then P3d opened and said it could not find the default flight and to reinstall Microsoft Flight Simulator. Go figure.
I have FSX on a separate and dedicated drive.
I tried System Restore to no avail.
After many attempts with same results, I opened the flat installer, ran as administrator, and got to the screen to Modify / Repair / Remove. Of course I clicked on "Repair" and then P3D stalled, then showed not responding. Ive tried this several times with same results.

Here's what the problem showed.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: AppHangB1
Application Name: msiexec.exe
Application Version: 5.0.7601.17514
Application Timestamp: 4ce792c4

Additional Hang Signature 6: c581

What do I need to do to get P3D up and running again.

Thanks so very very much.
Tom

G'day Tom, the Repair option takes its own sweet time to work. With my rig I get the "wait" mouse cursor for about four minutes it then runs. Pour yourself a beer or other favourite tipple and just wait.

Hi Tom,
Check the registry location where you installed P3D initially
Press Windows Start button >> type regedit >> enter >>find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\LockheedMartin\Prepar3D
The value of SetupPath should be equal to the disk\folder where you installed P3D initially.
To change: right mouse on the SetupPath icon >> Edit String Screen and change the Value Data>>OK
Then run the flat installer

Arismac - It did a repair install - took about 4 minutes like you said.
janvaane - The registry was correct..........

HELP!
After the repair, I opened P3D and it still demonstrated the same behavior...first showing p3d icon - Microsoft Flight Simulator -
It loaded and then said it could not find the "default flight" or that it was corrupted. Reinstall "MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR".
I then proceeded to My Documents Folder - I had the "Prepar3D Files" and showed flights. OK - THE Biggie -
I saw the Flight Simulator Folder for FSX flights, BUT, it was a "Shortcut"...I looked at properties and that full folder was pointing to the Prepar3D Files Folder. I have tried to delete it but it comes right back. If I move the Prepar3D Files Folder temporarily to my desktop, I can delete it. Of course, there is no Flight Simulator Files folder left. Just as soon as I move the Prepar3d Files Folder back in to My Documents, the "shortcut Flight Simulator Folder shows back up.
I went to the registry and neighter folder is showing up in My Documents in regedit??
Any ideas as to what I need to do...?
Thanks so much and have a blessed one.
Tom

OMG...what are you doing?
1. on what disk and what folder P3D is installed and did you remove the old file structure as mentioned in the instructions:
While the uninstaller removes all files that are created by the installer, it does not remove content that was generated during program execution. To completely uninstall Prepar3D, you must manually delete folders and files that are created during runtime. Please be sure to back up any changes you have made to any of the files in the folders. Now, please manually delete the following folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D (or the modified install location)
C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D
C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D
C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D
C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Documents\Prepar3D Files
Note: Replace *USERNAME* with the Windows user account name that will be running Prepar3D®.

After the Repair action:
2. do you find the prepar3d.exe file in the installation folder?
3. If yes....right mouse Run as administrator...does it run or what?
If not...read this http://janvaane.org/virtualfsx/?page_id=14 send me a private message and I will help you out remotely.

janvaane,
YES - OMG.............what is "going" on. Never seen anything like that before.
FYI - I did a "repair" and not a full de-install and re-install.
In summary - let me tell you what happened:
I used FSX2P3D to port over a few of my payware add-ons such as the PMDG 737 & JS4100, also, MY Traffic - all my ORBX/FTX had SBSL's and P3d installers, so I was good there. All of this was done about three months ago and P3d has been flawless.
Well, "me knew" that the FSX2P3D installs a fsx.exe in the root Prepar3d Folder, as well as the "Virtual FSX" folder when it's enabled.
I then checked and FSX2P3d installer was dis-abled, however, those files were still in the Prepar3d Folder.
I deleted those folders - as well as checking my P3d.config - In summary - for whatever reason - my P3d.configs' listings had become FSX to the letter - I deleted the P3d.config file.
I started P3d and it ran like a charm by building a new config. I went back and enabled FSX2P3d Tool and it placed a FSX.exe in the root folder of Prepar3d, as it should and the Virtual FSX folder was implmented.
A LOT of problems was created and changes made when I used the CC Cleaner Registry clean up...........first time ever a problem.
I am very "relieved" that I found the problems and was able to correct them. Without P3d, well, it's like leaving home without your cell phone.
I want to thank you so very very much for your interest, patience, and helping me.
Have a blessed one.
Tom

PS - P3D is installed in the root of C: - FSX is installed on a separate dedicated Raptor Drive.

My best advice for you: format C:\; reinstall W7; run windows update; run ccleaner; defrag ; install p3d; reactivate license

Hi janvaane,
I going to watch and evaluate my pc in all areas for a few days. It's doing quite well, right now. If I start getting burps again,
I start from scratch as you suggested.
Thanks so very much for your help.
Tom
