Post Multiple monitor setup
on: July 7, 2012, 20:54

Hi, I have prepar3d installed running across three monitors using Eyefinity. I'm getting pretty good results except for two things:

1. The stretched instrument panels are unwanted - is there a line I can put in the config to stop this happening ?
2. The flight intermittently (but with regularity) goes on pause. I can quickly overcome it by clicking on the menu (anywhere), then pressing P to unpause but there must be a better solution.

This is my PC setup:

Asus P8Z77-VLX with Intel Core i7 3770K/3.5GHz 8MB cache
Corsair vengeance 1600 MHz 16GB DDR3
Sapphire HD7850 OC 2GB
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

In fsx.cfg try

[PANELS]
PANEL_STRETCHING=1

the other problem is probably a video driver..

Thanks jorge, I had tried that line with both 0 and 1 and it made no difference in prepar3d

@ 2: to be sure: check Settings >> General >> Program >> Pause on task switch box unchecked.

Thanks Jan, unchecked the box and the screen no longer freezes :) . Now all that happens is that the sound stops and I have to click the menu to get it back - weird !

Learman, the sound will stop when you switch task and should come back when focus is restored, that is normal behaviour
I have 3 22' mons with th2go and that setting makes a difference, don't know what the setting you have would do .

That's the thing, I'm not switching tasks, just flying the plane. However, unticking the box has stopped the freezing but not losing sound.

Hi Jan, I found that one and unchecked the box but did not solve problem :( . I will try your solution but it would be nice if this can be fixed without the add-on. Pleased to say I am no longer having video issues, so my migration from FSX is now permanent !

well I installed Flight1 Soundstream - unfortunately no "Try before you Buy". When I ran Prepar3d I got a message about the newly installed software saying that it had not been tested for my version LOL.

I discovered that altough the screen does not freeze, the ability to do certain things ceases - such as bringing up the landing gear. I have to use my old trick of clicking on the menu bar and - hey presto - I can bring the gear up/down again.

To avoid stretched 2D panels, you have to edit the PANEL.CFG file of the plane of your choice (..\SIMOBJECTS\AIRPLANES\...) starting with the first panel window, and so on. Divide the WINDOW_SIZE x value by 3. Sometimes you will find it handy to also change the POSITION value.
Example:

//
// Main panel
//
[Window00]
file_1024=PMDG_NGX_main_wide.bmp
size_mm=1920, 1200
window_size=1.000, 1.000
position=7
visible=1
ident=MAIN_PANEL

becomes:

//
// Main panel
//
[Window00]
file_1024=PMDG_NGX_main_wide.bmp
size_mm=1920, 1200
window_size=0.333, 1.000
position=7
visible=1
ident=MAIN_PANEL

Interestingly, I switched from the default aircraft to the Beechcraft 58 and the problems with freezing and loss of sound have vanished. So with the aircraft change and modifying panel.cfg I've been able to resolve the issues I had. Thanks for the help guys :)

I would not recommend Flight1 Soundstream as (at the time of writing) it simply does not work on the latest version of Prepar3d (v1.3).
